From Sundays message: As God pronounced judgment after judgment on Babylon, he also reminded his hearers that not all the world is headed for destruction. The cycle of hurt and vengeance and escalation will come to an end. God has a better plan. God has a glorious plan. God intends for the knowledge of his glory to fill the earth. Here, the word knowledge has more than awareness as its purpose. God intends for the entire world not only to have intellectual awareness of his glory. God is going to make it so that, one day, all of the globe will experientially know him and his glory. The glory of God is the manifest beauty of his perfection. The glory of God has to do with his weightiness and worth. And the glory of God is going to be on display all over the globe. As much as water covers the sea—which is totally—the glory of God will cover the globe. What is God promising? Right in the middle of deep and dark judgments, God reminds the watching world that he will win. God reminds us that he will conquer. 🇬🇧 "Habakkuk rejoiced that God was the God of his salvation.  God revealed that salvation to us in the New Testament when He sent His Son, Jesus.  For you to be able to sing a “song in the night” you must know Jesus as your Savior.  This means that you confess that you are a sinner, and you don’t deserve heaven, but that you believe that God sent Jesus to die on the cross and pay for your sins, so that if you ask Him, He will forgive your sins, and send His Spirit into your heart and save you, and lead you in a life of following Him.  When you do that, then Jesus is your Savior.  This is the first and most vital step in having a “song in the night.”  You must know, like Habakkuk, that God is “the God of (your) salvation; you must know for sure that Jesus is your Savior."   IS JESUS YOUR SAVIOUR? 🇬🇧 ‭‭Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.  Habakkuk 3:17-18 Despite all of the circumstances he was facing; despite everything that had happened and was going to happen, Habakkuk says “YET  I will rejoice.” Habakkuk lived during desperate times, but he proclaimed that in God he had a joy that was greater than the circumstances in which he lived. Habakkuk was like the nightingale; he had a “song in the night” – and it was a song that came from his relationship with God. It has been my joy to read thru the @craiggroeschel reading plan. Today's final devotion is SO inspirational, I wanted to share it publicly. Enjoy. . "Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory. ~William Barclay, Scottish minister . I don’t know what you’re going through or what you’ve already survived. But I do know this: our God is a good God who loves us enough to sacrifice his precious Son, the greatest gift He could give us just so we can know Him, just so we can glorify Him on earth, just so we can spend eternity with Him in heaven. . He loves us that much. We’re able to love him, or anyone else, only because He first loved us. . When hard things happen, and the best you can manage is to want to believe, that’s enough. Don’t stop wanting to believe. . Allow that spark of hope to grow by trusting that God is right there beside you. . Pray and ask God to help you overcome your unbelief. Like Habakkuk, ask your questions & then be prepared to listen to God’s response. . My prayer is that you would grow to have that Habakkuk kind of faith we see in chapter 3. But here’s the deal: you can’t have a chapter 3 type of faith until you’ve had a chapter 1 type of question and a chapter 2 kind of waiting. . Because God often does more spiritually in the valley than he does on the mountaintop. . I don’t have all the answers to your questions. But after loving God & serving Christ for more than 29 years now, here’s what I can say: I’ve walked with Jesus for enough yesterdays to trust him with all my tomorrows. . Do you want to grow closer to God? Do you want that intimacy with him more than you want a comfortable, easygoing, problem-free life? . Then never stop wanting to believe. . You can have hope in the dark. Because as you grow to know God, He will reveal even more of His love, His faithfulness, His grace. And over time you will realize, believe, and embrace that even when life is difficult, God is still good." . SO GOOD; SO ENCOURAGING! Reflection: No, Not Like That By John Tillman A common objection to faith is that if God is all-powerful and all-good, how does he allow evil to exist? Habakkuk has his own version…He objects that God is not taking action. God says, “I’m already doing something about it. The Babylonians are on their way.” Habakkuk…“No, God. Not like that!” Perhaps Habakkuk just wanted a new king or a few judges replaced, but God saw deeper problems. God takes both justice and mercy more seriously than us. He knows better than us the costs of holding them both. In the parable of the tares in the wheat, Jesus implies that evil is more intimately bound up with us than we think. The tares cannot be pulled up without damaging the wheat. When we ask God to pull up weeds, he can see the weed's roots are tangled around our own. We must trust God when he chooses to address evil, whether it is in our hearts, in our institutions, or in our countries. More than anything else, let us stay in dialogue with God, as Habakkuk does. We don’t have to hold back our doubts, fears, or objections. 🇬🇧 In the early 1820’s, John Keats, the English poet, went outside one evening for the specific purpose of sitting under a tree and listening to the song of a nightingale, the bird renowned for singing its song at night.  Several hours later, one of his friends said that Keats returned home with scraps of paper in his hand; on them he had composed one of the most famous poems in history: “Ode To A Nightingale.”  Keats was captivated with the nightingale, that bird that could sing its song in the night.  The prophet Habakkuk himself is much like that nightingale.  Habakkuk lived in a land of darkness and it was about to get much darker.  And yet, he had a song that he could sing in the those dark days. The verse in the image is from the book of Habakkuk. He is a minor prophet, and his entire book is one that if we were charged in Sunday School to read a book of the Bible, we would quickly choose because it is only three chapters long. But despite being considered a minor prophet and having one of the shortest books, Habakkuk is unique in that he only has one audience to which he delivers his complaint and call to action: God. Rather than being charged by God to confront the people, as is the usual role of the prophet, this prophet confronts God. The prophet’s message and challenge to God is one that I think we are all wanting to today with all that is going on in the world: “O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save?” The prophet is looking at the violence and evil going on in the world and challenges God to what purpose does this all serves. That is a question I have been asking for a long time myself, to the point where I question, at times, if anyone is listening. The verse is from the beginning of God’s response to Habakkuk, and it is God’s assurance that help is coming and that the evil that the prophet is seeing will soon be defeated. God delivers a message of woe to the wicked, saying that the proud will be cast down and the arrogant will not endure, and those that found cities on iniquity will be no more. As I read this book recently, I couldn’t help but feel that this is true. I believe that we are coming to the end of this period of darkness that has blanketed the world. I believe that people are starting to awaken and stir to the injustices and threats to the world that are being plotted. I believe that that charm of tyrants is breaking. I believe that people are getting tired of being told to be angry and afraid all the time. I believe that our cries are not unheard and will be answered. There are still battles ahead, but I have a hope that we are nearing the end of it. The tide is turning. And even with all my challenges and questioning of God, I still cling fast because as Habakkuk ends his book: “God, the Lord, is my strength”

⚡️ At one point or another we have all probably asked ourselves, “Why does God allow evil?” We are not alone. Habakkuk was struggling with the same question as he looked at all the evil surrounding him. ⚡️ If God were to destroy all the evil on the earth, no one would be left. In Mark 10:18, Jesus said, “No one is good except God alone.” Not eradicating evil could be seen as an act of mercy, because we all have evil inside us that we have to battle. That’s why we are told to crucify our flesh daily. ⚡️ But what if evil wasn’t even an option? What if everyone was only allowed to choose good things? What if Lucifer was never created so he never could have tempted Eve and caused the fall? Well, that would take away free will. And God is not a tyrant who demands that we choose only what He wants. He is a loving Father who lets us make our own mistakes and helps us when we return as prodigals wrecked from our decisions. ⚡️ Evil might surround us in this world, but God is sovereign over it all. He will use all things for good, even when we don’t understand how. We just have to have hope and wait patiently for the plan to unfold.

Nahum was written to between 663 and 612 B.C. to tell the people of Judah to not despair because the brutal Assyrians would soon be getting their just punishment from God. The prophet Habakkuk cries out against the sins of Judah but grapples with the fact that they will suffer at the hands of enemies even more wicked than themselves, but that they can trust God’s wisdom and plan of salvation. Zephaniah’s message is that God is sovereign over the nations, the wicked will be punished, the righteous vindicated and that God blesses all those who repent and trust in Him.
