„From Below“ von @darcybooks ist ein absolutes Highlight! 🤩 Die Atmosphäre in dem Buch ist derartig beklemmend und furchteinflößend, ich konnte das Grauen in diesem Wrack quasi spüren 🫣 Wer, wie ich, panische Angst vor tiefem Wasser hat und versunkene Schiffe einfach nur extrem gruselig findet, wird sich mit diesem Buch bestätigt fühlen, dass man diese Dinge einfach in Ruhe lassen sollte. Das Kopfkino in diesem Roman ist stark ausgeprägt und die klaustrophobische Enge in der Arcadia perfekt beschrieben. Die Erzählweise in den beiden Zeitebenen fand ich perfekt gewählt, so war es möglich sich mittendrin im Geschehen zu fühlen. Das Finale fand ich nervenzerfetzend und ich habe nägelkauend mit Cove & Co. mitgefiebert. Auch mit der Auflösung bin ich sehr zufrieden. Finde ich ziemlich stimmig und auch das ein Hauch Mystery bleibt gefällt mir gut. Meinung: Wow, was für ein Buch, welches mich völlig in seinen Bann gezogen hat - was einfach seiner unfassbaren Atmosphäre geschuldet ist, wie ich sie selten gelesen habe. Wir befinden uns auf zwei Zeitebenene, 1928 werden die mysteriösen Dinge auf dem Kreuzfahrtschiff beleuchtet, die unweigerlich zum Ende des Schiffes führen, in der Gegenwart begleiten wir ein Filmteam auf dem Tauchgang zum Wrack, bei dem sie ebenfalls unfassbares erleben. Die Vergangenheit nimmt weniger Spielraum ein, ist aber dennoch spannend geschrieben. Was ist auf diesem Schiff paassiert? Wieso verschwinden Passagiere, nehmen sich selbst das Leben… und was sind das für Geräuche in den Wänden? Tolle Atmosphäre, großartige und glaubhafte Auflösung! Die Gegenwart ist an Atmosphäre kaum zu übertreffen. 600 Seiten voll mit Tauchgängen, die selbst in den ruhigen Momenten beklemmen und später im reinem Wahnsinn gipfeln. Ja, es gibt ein paar Wiederholungen, aber Coates schafft es dennoch, nie Langeweile aufkommen zu lassen und schafft, dass man die Angst der spannend gezeichneten Charaktere regelrecht spürt. Sowieso sind die Charaktere gelungen, denn sie sind einem so wichtig, dass man mit ihnen mitfiebert – die Auflösung zum Verhalten einer Protagonistin fand ich sogar sehr emotional und toll erzählt. Fantastisch geschrieben. Für mich ein kleines Meisterwek im Horrorbereich. Eine Atmosphäre-Bombe, die dem ein oder anderen vielleicht zu lang sein könnte – ich liebe ja solche Schinken! 10/10 _ 💬 Mögt ihr das Horror-Genre❓ _
