Grease (1978) Frankie Valli. Japanese 7 inch pressing of the title song from the hit movie, one of four original songs composed specifically for the film adaptation and not in the original stage production. Also the only original song not sung by a cast member and done in the contemporary disco sound of the time rather than the 50s rock n’ roll sound of the period setting of the movie. Valli was initially offered a role in the movie for the Beauty School Dropout scene, but chose to just sing the theme instead. Written by Barry Gibb at the peak of the Bee Gees’ dominance of the pop scene, it reached number three in the UK (Summer Nights was no.1 at the time, and Travolta’s Sandy also in the top ten, making it three songs from the movie in the top ten simultaneously). Valli turned 90 in May of this year.
