Who are ‘your people,’ the ones you truly connect with? Beneath the surface of mushrooms, lies a vast root network. Microscopic ‘mycelium’ form an essential connection to surrounding plant life, allowing the exchange of life-giving nutrients. All that happens unseen, is revealed in the growth on the surface. Much like mushrooms, the connections we make are vital to our development. As we share with one another, we all grow. 'Claw and Order' 🦉 It's rare for my images nowadays to have the subject representing a human entirely. I tend to blend humans with other species in order to bring you into their worlds a little more. I have multiple degrees in biology and am a strong defender of animal sentience. I empathise with them and know that our understanding has oversimplified our expectations of their cognitive ability. I believe that if policymakers did the empathised, animals would be more protected. However, something about the relationship between birds from this local falconry, and humans really touched me in this project. There was so much beauty in their harmony. Perhaps because it's another reason to soften our control of them. This was published a while back in @Solismagazine.
The formation of our identity, may be likened to the shaping of clay. Raw and unformed, pure and with possibilities as broad as the imagination, clay represents potential. Inherently within us, it takes time and work to reveal. Individually hand sculpted, the leaves surrounding the subject are Acanthis, symbolising rebirth into who we truly are. Split gill mushrooms represent our transformation. All connected to the earth, each element alludes to the full cycle of our lives. 'Aisling' 🦋 The spirit of a fallen tree 🌳🪚 We found this HUGE stump in Virginia Water. I have NOT enlarged this! I can't imagine how big the tree must have been. It's must have been so ancient too, potentially feeling the world go by for hundreds of years. News: I moved to Edinburgh 6 months ago, in the bitter winter, and have been cycling everywhere in my psychedelic snowsuit 🥽. I've just got a new job and have moved back to working with flies again 🪰. The spring has sprung here, the gorse has erupted from the hills, the wild garlic is filling my garden with the enticement of celebrating good food and the people are smiling. My heart is feeling lighter as the days grow longer. My camera is burning a hole in my pocket and I have started to sketch and paint again. 'In Faerie Lands Forlorn' I have moved country! I now live in Edinburgh and have been studying zooplankton 🦐. It's peaceful here. I live near a castle and lake in my own place 🏰. ‘A Wing and a Prayer’ depicts a character who has weathered the storm. The heavens break open, as she makes her prayer in the desert… Utilising symbolism to shape the narrative, this image was a true collaboration with nature and my muse Liz. Storm clouds and the dead tree line behind the subject, represent hardship walked through. The green tree line and blue sky breaking through in front, symbolise hope for the future. Remote desert landscape represents isolation and lack. Worn bandaging shows damage done, as well as healing in progress. Her multiple wings represent freedom—the ability to escape, transport ourselves and rise above. This piece seeks to ignite vision for transformation and growth—for a future beyond the shadows of current circumstance. On monochrome - The why In our world dripping with color, I chase shadows. Not to escape, but to embrace. Black and white, to me, isn't the absence of vibrancy, but a symphony of greys, a subtle dance of silver and charcoal. Within this restricted palette, one's creativity is released to take flight, unshackled by the tyranny of endless hues. No emerald eyes distracting from the soul in a gaze; no crimson dress stealing the show from the vulnerability laid bare. In monochrome, the essence emerges, etched in lines and whispers of light. Emotions bleed through, raw and unfiltered, in the stark contrast of a furrowed brow, a gentle curve of a smile. Why battle in this self-imposed constraint. Well within these boundaries, my imagination ignites. Textures sing. Composition takes center stage. Può sembrare che in questa foto @tarte.aux.pommes_ stia per cadermi addosso, o che sia sospesa in aria 🧙♀️ . Ci può trasmettere leggerezza, ma anche irrequietezza. O tante altre emozioni diverse che ognuno di noi, nel momento che la guarda, prova. Non mi reputo una fotografa professionista, ma più una racconta storie ( tipo Yano il pupazzo, chi se lo ricorda? 😂), il mio obiettivo è catturare momenti che ispirano e trasmettono emozioni. Something new, from something lost. 🖤 Back Story: This little bird flew into a window in the place I was staying in while in New Zealand. (Funnily enough, right as I was concepting). Much like how an album is laid out, I think of the pieces in a certain order, even if they aren’t visually laid out like that. This one begins the journey.
