The Detroit Riverfront is getting a major makeover, and a 20-foot tall brown bear slide is set to be the star attraction at the new 22 acre Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park. This enormous slide promises fun and adventure for families and visitors of all ages, adding a new level of excitement to the area. The park, originally the West Riverfront Parknow, is undergoing significant renovations as part of a decade-long project to revamp over 5 miles of Riverfront. The transformation includes not just the bear slide but also a sport house pavilion with basketball courts, a water garden, scenic walking paths, expansive green spaces perfect for picnics, and direct access to the Detroit River. Sunrise at Elizabeth Park - Trenton MI 1995 This bench sits on a high piece of ground surrounded by old oak and maple trees. Just in front of this bench, the land drops down to the shoreline of the Detroit River. The tree line in the background is the island of Grosse Ile. It's mid September and the first shot of cold air has moved down from the north and settled over the area creating a dense fog rising off of the still warm waters of the Detroit River. The morning sun was just about to crest the tree line on the other side of the river… painting the fog in that magic light and silhouetting the bench and the oak trees around it. Elizabeth Park is Wayne County's first county park. It was given to the county in 1919 by the Slocum family of Trenton who resided here starting in 1834. The area was occupied by the Native American tribe the "Wyandot" for several centuries before. What a great place to sit and watch a sunrise. Fun to think about how many people have sat there over the years to watch the sun come up. Coal Delivery: The Might 1004’ M/V James R. Barker from the Interlake Steamship Company Fleet downbound the Detroit River on this 80 Degree Saturday Afternoon, with some bad Air Quality coming into Metro Detroit… The Barker is passing with a half load of Coal after discharging her other half of cargo at the St. Clair Power Plant. She is here bound for the Monroe Power Plant to finish discharging all her cargo and then back up for Lake Superior for another load for either Iron Ore or Coal again. Usually when I see her down here she is loaded with Ore for Toledo Torco but not this trip. She is making the same cargo run as the PRT usually does all year long. Also I sadly do not get the barker bark down here. Maybe in 1000 years I’ll get captain to give me one lol! (5/18/24)

Last Tuesday we had the pleasure of hosting the Spring Detroit River Water Festival at the only international wildlife refuge in North America, right here in our backyard.
