📽️ El diablo sobre ruedas 💀 #nochedelobos #6 🗓️ 1971 ⏰ 89 minutos ⭐ 8/10 🍿 Aunque parezca mentira el diablo sobre ruedas es un telefilm de bajo presupuesto dirigido por un entonces desconocido Steven Spielberg, pero que tuvo tanto éxito, que recibió elogios por parte de la critica y del publico, por lo que ya es considerada un clásico de su director y una de las mejores Road Movie de la historia del cine. Escrita por Richard Matheson, trata sobre un tímido vendedor que conduce por la carretera que, al intentar adelantar a un camión cisterna, se inicia una persecución frenética cargada de tensión y suspense por los cuatro costados, todo un juego del gato y del raton continuo sin dar mayores explicaciones ni motivaciones, expresándose en su mayoría a través de la acción y poco a través de las palabras. Spielberg conocía muy bien la lección de que no hay mayor temor que aquel hacia lo que no conocemos o hacia lo que no se nos muestra en su totalidad. Para que está historia sea tan efectiva aún con una trama tan sencilla, Spielberg nos ofrece un buen número de planos desde distintos puntos de vista. En las persecuciones, vemos la carretera, miramos atrás y vemos el camión acercándose. Lo vemos por el lado. Por debajo. Planos aéreos. Primeros planos del protagonista... Hay que saber disfrutar de la técnica ( chicos del grupo de wassap Y si hablamos de cine, ¿De que suena eso? ), ya que la escasez de diálogos no resulta un problema en absoluto. R.I.P: For generation of teens growing up during the eighties, Terry Carter who has died aged 95 at his home in New York, was known for his role as Colonel Tigh in the feature film and subsequent Sci-Fi adventure TV series, “Battlestar Galactica” (1978-79), and prior to that, as Sergeant Joe Broadhurst for seven years on “McCloud” (1970-77), with Dennis Weaver. • Two decades before, Terry became one of the very first black actors to become a recognizable face on the household TV favourite “Sergeant Bilko”, as Private Sugarman between 1955-59, and starring Phil Silvers. • In 1964, he played Rosie Palmer in a 1964 episode of “Breaking Point” (episode: “Never Trouble Trouble Until Trouble Troubles You”), that led to the WWII drama “Combat!” (Terry was the only black actor on the show). • His mother Mercedes was from the Dominican Republic, his father William DeCoste who ran a radio repair business in Brooklyn, was of Argentine and African American descent. Terry graduated just after WWII from Stuyvesant High School, afterwards attending Hunter College, and then arriving in California to study UCLA. Then intent on studying law, he enrolled at St. John’s University, but he’d already caught the acting bug. • His career took him to stages on and off Broadway, working alongside Eartha Kitt in “Mrs. Patterson”, before honing his talents further on television and then film, as well as during the early 1960s, becoming the world’s first black TV anchor newsman for WBZ-TV (Channel 4) in Boston. • He played Gabriel in the TV-movie “The Green Pastures” (1959); was Cartwright in the film “Parrish” (1961), with Troy Donahue and Claudette Colbert; and appeared on TV shows such as “Dr. Kildare”, “Bracken’s World”, “Mannix”, “The Fall Guy”, “The Highwayman”, and the nighttime soap “Falcon Crest”. • He was Michael Anderson on “Foxy Brown”, starring the sensational Pam Grier; played Officer Tuttle in the family adventure tearjerker “Benji” (both 1974); and supported Peter Stormare in “Hamilton” (1998), and the subsequent short-lived TV series in 2001. • Three times married, Terry Carter is survived by his wife Etaferhu Zenebe and two children from a previous marriage. • •

I was watching the 1971 film “Duel”, the first film to be directed by Stephen Spielberg. It tells the story of a meek suburbanite (Dennis Weaver) whose dull drive through the California desert becomes a deadly cat-and-mouse game when he finds himself targeted by a murderous trucker. For Christmas my mom gave me the book “Steven Spielberg: All the Films” and I am finally beginning my reading/watching journey through it! Last night I started with Duel, Spielberg’s first feature film, and I really enjoyed it. It was almost Hitchcock like with the way Spielberg lets the suspense build between the driver of the car and the driver of the semi. From the moment it started to the last shot I was drawn into the story and couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like if I was caught up in a road rage situation like the one in this film. Duel is a quick watch and one I’d absolutely recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it. And stay tuned as I watch, read, and learn my way through All the Films! Oggi parliamo del primo lungometraggio di Steven Spielberg, il primo film che lo portò alla fama: “Duel”. Il film segue le vicende di David Mann (Dennis Weaver) il quale, durante il tragitto verso un colloquio di lavoro, si imbatte in un’autocisterna che cercherà a tutti i costi di distruggergli in ogni senso la vita. Un film action-thriller formato da una trama veramente semplice, ma al tempo stesso profonda. Un film che parla degli stupidi soggetti che purtroppo girano per la strada e che per stupidi motivi vogliono complicare la vita a tutto e tutti. Un cult incredibile che è entrato nell’immaginario collettivo, circondato da un lato tecnico maestoso e potente che porta a conoscere Spielberg a tutti per il suo incredibile talento. Nonostante tutto però, rimane un film abbastanza insipido e privo, secondo me, di una vera e propria sostanza. Comunque assolutamente da recuperare! He was an American 🇺🇸 actor and president of the Screen Actors Guild, best known for his work in television and films from the early 1950s until just before his death in 2006. Weaver’s two most famous roles were as Marshal Matt Dillon’s trusty partner Chester Goode/Proudfoot on the western Gunsmoke and as Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud on the police drama McCloud. He starred in the 1971 television film Duel, the first film of director Steven Spielberg. He is also remembered for his role as the twitchy motel attendant in Orson Welles’s film Touch of Evil (1958). 7.5/10 Inutile girarci intorno, l’uscita di The Fabelmans ha in qualche modo cambiato la prospettiva che avevamo dei primi lavori di Spielberg. Si potrebbe obiettare che più o meno quelle cose le si sapevano già, ma una cosa è leggerle un’altra vederne una versione cosi intima come il film ha mostrato. Ovviamente la prima produzione che in qualche modo ha usufruito di questo “approfondimento” è Duel. Ora la domanda è: cosa ha portato The Fabelmans a questo film più di quello che già non avevamo pensato e provato? Oltre quello che infatti, non possiamo mai sconfesare (un ritmo incalzante, una capacità di trasmettere i vari momenti senza bisogno di molte parole e basandosi molto sulle inquadrature e sul sonoro, direi fondamentale, e l’umanizzazione dell’uomo alfa) si è aggiunta qualcosa non dico di mistico ma comunque di ulteriore rispetto alla semplice fuga/inseguimento/azione. Le implicazioni psicologiche, paura, solitudine, speranza e angoscia, sono assolutamente presenti e, come detto, con l’uscita di The Fabelmans assumono, sempre a mio avviso, un peso ancora maggiore, se non altro per quel senso soffocante che il protagonista prova e che Spielberg, ora lo sappiamo con certezza, in quegli ha cercato di esorcizzare proprio con il cinema. Ovviamente la prima produzione che in qualche modo ha usufruito di questo “approfondimento” è Duel, che, anche se non è, come spesso si dice, materialmente il primo lungometraggio (c’e n’è uno titolato Firelight del periodo scolastico) è comunque quello che viene considerato il vero esordio dietro la macchina da presa del regista statunitense. Ora la domanda è: cosa ha portato The Fabelmans a questo film più di quello che già non avevamo pensato e provato? Prima di rispondere, partirei dalle basi conosciute e cioè su quelle che sono le considerazioni fatte su Duel da molti e con le quali non si può non essere d’accordo: un ritmo incalzante, una capacità di trasmettere i vari momenti senza bisogno di molte parole e basandosi molto sulle inquadrature e sul sonoro (direi fondamentale) e l’umanizzazione dell’uomo alfa. Quest’ultima, a livello prettamente emotivo, è probabilmente l’elemento più importante e riguarda il fatto di come non sempre l’aggressione sia la maniera più comune con la quale affrontare le cose, almeno nel reale. Quante volte, oggi come sempre, sentiamo qualcuno dire “se capitasse a me lo prenderei e mi farei rispettare (usando un eufemismo)” facendo credere che è tutto semplice? Alla fine, invece non lo è e molto spesso i timori sono superiori a tutto esattamente come la voglia, condivisa più delle parole, di uscire da certe circostanze per non tornarci più.
