✨️ Skippers Canteen, Magic Kingdom ✨️ The allergy menu here was so good that ALL FOUR of us ordered our meals to be gluten and dairy free so that Darcy could enjoy tasting our meals too! Such a good experience for Darcy to taste new foods and feel fully included 🫶 Everything you see here is completely gluten and dairy free!! Yep, they do gluten free fried chicken, purple potatoes that taste like mini jacket potatoes & a lovely noddle bowl (Nellie's noodle bowl from the adult menu) 🍜 We also got the lamb cutlets from the adult menu to be gluten and dairy free, but Darcy devoured the lamb before I could snap a pic 🤪 We did speak to the chef who was super helpful and made Darcy some rice that was suitable for her allergies, even though it was not listed as suitable on the menu. Woody's Roundup Rodeo, honest review for kids Gluten and dairy free. First of all let's say that this is a family style meal and they have done a good job of making sure the starters/ mains are suitable for Gluten and dairy free. The only items adapted were the plain grilled corn, separate sealed gluten free bread rolls ( although they did not have plant based butter available 👎), Darcy could not have the mac & cheese and could only have the strawberry pie for desert where as the other kids got a forkie cupcake. I would say the meal was good but not worth the price tag, Darcy enjoyed the potatoe tots, chicken and corn. She did not like the salads, beans (too spicy) or desert (again spiced) and there were no alternatives, like they have at lots of other Disney restaurants. If your kids love toy story I would recommend it, but I'm not sure it's worth the money if not 🤷♀️ Although they kept Darcy very safe (note the allergy check!!), the general service was not great, a little rushed and the restaurant was too dark. 👎 Aeroplane Food 👎 This page is designed to show positivity, however I think it is important to highlight how much improvement is required amongst airlines to become more inclusive for multiple allergies/ dietary requirements. It seems bizarre that none of the top airlines (as far as I'm aware but correct me if I am wrong) offer a meal that excludes the top 14 allergens, it would be so simple and mean so much to so many. We always travel @virginatlantic and recommend them highly, however on an 8 hour flight Darcy could only have a few select snacks and non of the meal provided, luckily I was aware of this and had prepared a sandwich etc. Shout out to the cabin crew who tried to find Darcy extra snacks that were suitable, I'm sure its just as frustrating for them & they said they see this all the time, sadly. Located in the Cordillera Mountains, Sagada is home to the world-famous Sumaguing Cave. At a depth of 163 meters, it is known as the deepest cave in the Philippines and is truly a site to behold. Although we didn't hike down the entire length of the Sumaguing Cave, we did transverse through a large portion of the challenging and slippery terrain with the help of our trusty guides. During our 3-hour journey, we had the opportunity to observe the unique rock formations, ancient stalagmites, underground rivers and shallow pools. At only 800 PHP for a group of up to 10, this excursion is one of the best deals we have found travelling thus far. If you decide to take the plunge and explore the cave, make sure to wear waterproof clothing, proper outdoor sandals or hiking boots, and a headlamp if possible. Also wear long pants that you can roll up to protect your legs from the sharp rocks. TULUM FOODS PT. 1 🌯🌴 @burritoamor I recently returned from Mexico, and let me tell you: Tulum is literally heaven on earth when it comes down to eating gluten and dairy free foods. Want to have the best burritos? 🌯 Located in Tulum Centro you’ll find Burrito Amor. Their gluten free burritos are made of coconut and, even though I don’t really enjoy the taste of coconut too much, I could not get enough of their burritos as the coconut flavour is very subtle. And they only use olive oil for cooking so lots of dairy free options to enjoy. The food is really flavourful, just thinking about it makes me hungry already. If you visit, definitely order the banana bread for desert. The taste is sweet and extremely rich. I've just been away for a few days, and I thought it might be helpful to share the things which always go in my case. I always pack a few items of food. If I know I have to make breakfast each day, I take some crackers with me, and then buy some hummus or pate when I get there. I also pack fruit and nuts so that I have a snack when I'm travelling and can't find anything free from gluten and dairy at the airport. If you don't prepare, you'll end up eating things you know don't agree with you. Netherlands Trip Recap - #glutenfree & #dairyfree Food 🇳🇱 pt.2 @macdonalds.nl 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Quite a few Mcdonalds in Amsterdam are doing the GF bun now, again - this was a last resort for a very hungry/grumpy me who needed FOOD. Never been more grateful for GF food. No idea why we don't have this option in the UK @mcdonaldsuk ? @restaurant_olijfje 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Mediterranean restaurant with a clearly marked GF menu, good knowledge of dairy free too and really tasty, well priced food. Bit of a trek from the station side of Amsterdam, but well worth it. @albertheijn 🌟🌟🌟🌟 These supermarkets are dotted about everywhere and they have a lot of pre-made salads clearly marked GF/DF. They saved my ass a few times when I was on the verge of a melt down because I couldn't find safe food anywhere. @zepposamsterdam 🌟 The sentence "Butter doesn't have dairy in it though right?" from the waitress pretty much sums this experience up for me. Despite a Dutch friend calling ahead to check they could cater for me, the staff seemed very unsure what actually constituted dairy or gluten and served me salad with croutons and a steak with a butter sauce (which I found out too late). The wine was nice though... Noordwijkerhout - Essentially an industrial estate, the nearest restaurant was an all you can eat chinese buffet housed in a bowling alley and golf course. Wok Restaurant Oriental in de Flamingo Partycenter 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I was quite nervous going here, as usually I can't eat Chinese food these days. There was one lovely waitress (the only one who spoke English) who carefully showed me what I could eat and gave me a bottle of GF soy sauce. They fry all their battered foods in potato starch so they're naturally GF and the selection of sushi was really great! Overall my trip to the NL was 🌟🌟🌟 food wise, but that's only due to the dairy mishap! I found a lot of places whilst walking around Amsterdam that I would have loved to try but were closed, so I'll definitely be back and will 100% stay in self-catering this time (or in PANCAKES Amsterdam if they'll let me)
Netherlands Trip Recap - #glutenfree & #dairyfree Food 🇳🇱 pt.1 So it's been a few days since I got back from my week in the Netherlands and I've been taking it easy as sadly I had some accidental dairy there and it knocked me out for a few days (for me having dairy results in a lot of inflammation, digestion issues and brain fog). I was staying in hotels as I was travelling around for work, which usually I would avoid doing so I could self-cater a bit more (a life lesson I keep forgetting). My battle with visiting Europe always seems to be around the #lactosefree/ Dairy Free confusion - does anyone else find this? I've been caught out before when foods were advertised as Lactose Free (never seen Dairy Free) and have been told this means Dairy Free too, but definitely wasn't on further investigation. Here is my mini review of where I found gluten free & dairy free food in the NL Mijdrecht 1 night (super near Schiphol Airport) where our hotel had "run out of food"...They recommended a restaurant in the town that could do GF. @restaurant_rv 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and didn't bat an eyelid at my request - my food was really nice and the service was excellent. Restaurant Kokido🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Simple family restaurant serving chicken and chips. All food can be GF but sadly not DF due to cross-contamination. The very kind chef came out and said he could make me some fresh fish with salad and chips, which was delicious. I felt very cared for here by the staff. Amsterdam Central 🥞 - I had researched heavily for this leg of the journey, there were lots of particularly great blogs for fellow celiacs but sadly all a bit outdated, with a lot of the mentioned locations having now closed down. Here's where I'd recommend (and where I wouldn't) @pancakesamsterdam 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This place was like my church while I was here, I tried to go back twice in one day and was gently stopped by my partner. The toppings are endless, the ques are incredible, the taste was heavenly and they are super clear on what ingredients they use (actually understand the concept of dairy free). I tried a couple of my dehydrated meals out on the trail this past week. They were great, but smaller servings. I definitely need to increase the serving size. I had a Mountain House freeze dried beef stew meal while I was out there as well and reminded me that I had not made beef stew in YEARS! How is that even possible? So I made some beef stew this week and WOW it was so good ☺️ It's perfect fall and winter food ❤️ I will definitely be making it for a dehydrated trail meal and/or travel meal. When is the last time you made beef stew?
