Há 50 anos, Caravan lançava "Caravan and the New Symphonia", seu primeiro álbum ao vivo. Um dos registros mais cultuados da banda, foi, como o nome sugere, um trabalho do Caravan em conjunto com a The New Symphonia Orchestra, conduzida pelo maestro britânico Martyn Ford. A colaboração teve suas origens nos meados de 1973, por intermédio do baixista do grupo, John Perry. A sugestão acabou avaliada, tomada à vera e em 28 de outubro de 1973, no Theatre Royal, em Drury Lane, Londres, o concerto foi gravado. A banda estava em turnê de suporte à "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" (1973) e acabou realizando uma série de apresentações com a orquestra, tamanha a boa repercussão interna do projeto à época. De fato, musicalmente é plenamente compreensível o bom julgo da banda, dado o ao vivo ressaltar de maneira ainda mais cristalina belíssimos detalhes de algumas das seminais faixas do grupo, que ganharam versões definitivas aqui. O trabalho orquestral foi a ponte perfeita entre o imponente e o textural, dando ao mesmo tempo todo o espaço para as elegantes e envolventes linhas de guitarra de Pye Hastings e os teclados de Dave Sinclair "valsarem" e também ganhando protagonismo de maneira sutil, harmoniosa e arrebatadora nas canções. Versões de "The Love In The Eye" e, sobretudo, de "For Richard" exemplificam bem o quanto o trabalho é um dos melhores ao vivo de sua geração. Apesar de todo o show ter sido registrado, devido a limitações de tempo no vinil o lançamento original conteve apenas cinco faixas. Apenas no relançamento, ocorrido em 2001, o repertório integral daquela noite foi contemplado, já no formato em CD. Não sou daqueles que deixo para amanhã o que se pode fazer hoje. A não ser que eu esteja com muito sono (risos). E eu sigo a linha geral que a noite foi feita para dormir, salvo raríssimas exceções e estado de necessidade (aquele rock imperdível, por exemplo). Bom exemplo disso são as palavrinhas que dividirei com vocês logo a seguir. Dessa forma, o meu sábado está chegando ao fim em perfeita companhia e harmonia com a banda britânica Caravan. Rock progressivo, psicodelia e elementos do jazz. Sim, dessa mistura, quando bem feita, o resultado é o prazer inesgotável que serve de combustível para a alma. O álbum acima se chama "If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You". Na tradução livre, algo como "Se eu pudesse fazer tudo de novo, eu faria em você". A música em destaque "Can't Be Long Now" tem a duração de pouco mais de 14 minutos e é simplesmente maravilhosa. Segundo trabalho de estúdio e o sarrafo tá mais ou menos na mesosfera da Terra. O que mais me espanta: lançada em 1970! Eu cheguei a este mundo nos "acréscimos" do segundo tempo de 1984 e cada vez mais abraçado com o passado que não vivi. Escutem o álbum inteiro para terem um pouco da noção que eu estou tentando transmitir. Ou para que vocês mesmos possam criar suas impressões. Não busquem coletâneas antes de conhecer a banda, eu recomendo uma imersão contextualizada em ordem cronológica. Garanto que a experiência será muito melhor. Música para quem não tem pressa. Keeping the prog flame alive on Progwednesday with this beauty of an album: Hatfield and the North - ‘The Rotters’ Club’ (1975). . One of the most outstanding albums to come out of the Canterbury scene from a short-lived band made up of (among others) former Caravan members. On this, their second album, they were assisted by members from Henry Cow. . Ok, it’s Prog rock, but as much jazz rock as well. Long, intricate pieces that change and evolve all the time in - sometimes- insanely interwoven time signatures. It’s like hearing Soft Machine, Caravan and King Crimson team up. . The musicianship on ‘The Rotters’ Club’ is nothing short of astounding. Just listen to the almost side long suite ‘Mumps’ - how do they do it? . It’s getting hard to get hold of this album on vinyl, but please do. You won’t know what happens til you give it a spin. Essential in a solid prog collection. . Has anyone seen this poster before? It's for the June 18-20 1971 Auvers-sur-Oise Festival in Paris. It was meant to be the French Woodstock but was cancelled early on the first day because of a torrential downpour. The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead were all scheduled to appear for the 30,000 attendees but the show was stopped after only three European bands appeared. The Grateful Dead were staying at Chateau d'Herouville on the outskirts of Paris and decided to hold a private show there on June 21st. Celebramos los 77 años del músico escocés Pye Julian Hastings , nacido en Tomnavoulin, condado de Banffshire, al noreste de Escocia. Siendo un niño, se trasladó junto con sus padres a vivir en las cercanías de Canterbury, en el condado de Kent, al sureste de Inglaterra. Con el correr de los años, Hastings comenzó a tocar la guitarra y en 1966 se unió a la banda The Wilde Flowers, reemplazando a Richard Sinclair. En esta banda estaban futuros músicos que iban a hacer historia, como Kevin Ayers y Robert Wyatt, que formarían Soft Machine. Después de la disolución del grupo en 1967, Pye, el baterista Richard Coughlan, y los primos Richard y Dave Sinclair, darían forma a la banda Caravan, en donde Pye no solo toca la guitarra sino que también canta. Hastings es el único miembro de la banda que ha estado en todas las encarnaciones de Caravan hasta la actualidad. Con ellos ha grabado 15 álbumes de estudio, entre los que se encuentran algunos indispensables como "In The Land of Grey and Pink", "Waterloo Lily", "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" y "Cunning Stunts".
