Sourdough Saturday! Not every attempt is a success! The cinnamon sugar butter mixture in the dough dripped into the oven, which caused a lot of smoke, the fire department coming to our house, and a burnt loaf! However, we learn from our mistakes! I turned the rest of the dough into small cinnamon sourdough rolls! Josiah still got a plain sourdough loaf, and I will be attempting a different cinnamon sourdough variety next, with hopefully no fire department involved! Have you ever wanted to live in a Nancy Meyers film? If so, I’m with you! And guess what? That wish came true today @bobbyboybakeshop when my son and I stopped in before doing an errand. I felt like an extra in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ or ‘It’s Complicated’. And the quality of pastry and bread matched the vibe, as was alluded to by the long line that fed through the front entrance as we ate our lunch. My son obsessed over how good his focaccia with prosciutto tasted. I asked about the sandwich lol. My braised chicken salad sandwich on sesame bread toasted perfectly with butter and spread with jalapeño aioli was absolutely divine. We ordered an oat latte and Orange Calamansi Soda to go with our food. We ordered a few baguettes and pastries on our way out the door to take with us. We couldn’t resist. My son came home and immediately baked some garlic in herbed oil and sliced a baguette for snacking. He appreciates a good loaf of bread. The lemon tarts were the best we’ve had. The top is very intense with lemon flavor but inside is a mild and light cream custard that balances just right with it. Our trip to Winston Salem yesterday was mostly about eating and drinking LOL. We stopped at @acadiafoodsws for lunch,amazing sandwiches! We used to meet here with Wes when she was at UNCSA rather then sit in a dorm room:) it’s new and improved and the menu is so good! Lotes of vegan options. We both had the vegan Reuben and it’s now a sandwich I’m going to crave! Acadia is also a great place to pick up some last minute Christmas things. I gifted myself a new market basket that will be good for gathering herbs next summer, some Moravian cookies and a nice bottle of wine. It’s all about self care this year! Later we went to @bobbyboybakeshop for some unbelievable pastries and a really good cup of coffee. Last year I asked for some @rancho_gordo beans but they were sold out. Wesley spotted some on the shelves at the bakery and got me some for Christmas. Can’t wait to cook these for New Years! This story brings all the emotions regarding love and loss. There’s a thread of mystery throughout the story. I really loved Josie’s character, and I had so much hope for her second chance once she arrived in the countryside. There’s a lot of hope in this story with a tumultuous war as its backdrop. REVIEW: Thank you, @getredprbooks, for the gifted book. I’ve been loving these novellas by authors M.J. Rose and C.W. Gortner, both of who write historical fiction individually, and I adore those as well. The Heist is the conclusion of the three novellas, and it occurs one year after The Bait, the second book. Ania has been hiding, planning her next move. There will be a heist, and Ania and Jerome will have to do all they can to stop it. I loved the 1950s Hollywood setting. All the glitz and glamour and drama, too. There’s humor, excellent pacing, and precise writing to keep moving the story forward. I thought The Heist brought the storyline together to a satisfying conclusion, and it was such an exciting journey along the way.
