Inclusion at its core is about making space for another human being. Physically, by creating accommodations for their needs, emotionally, by welcoming them without prior judgment, intellectually, by adapting curriculum to their level, philosophically, by seeing a whole human being rather than focusing on what they can’t do. Though we take diverging paths, we are all traveling the same road. We all want the same basic things. To love and be loved, to be accepted from within, rather than judged from afar. And to feel safe. Charlie, a dear little boy we met during a long hospital stay, showed me that inclusion was not the goal. Friendship, acceptance and community were the goals. Like Charlie said in my book, “Hi makes us friends.” He made space for Preston with the unfiltered brilliance that only children can. He welcomed someone he didn’t fully understand but accepted anyway with one word. Hi. He accepted that Preston said ‘oh’ for ‘hi’ and did what no one else has ever done. He said, “Preston you speak two different languages: your made up one and mine, so I’ll speak yours too! OH!” Charlie yelled out as if he were about to burst into song. Preston laughed at the way he said it. Charlie laughed back. Sometimes I wonder if Charlie wasn’t an angel sent from above to teach me where to look next. 💚 This philosophy should also be applied to our non disabled people, in our non disabled life. Do we try to understand someone else’s language or judge from afar? Our Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve menus will be a variation of our chef’s Feed Me menu, utilising our outdoor BBQ. For those of you who have recently joined us I know you are wondering, what is your chef’s ‘Feed Me’ menu exactly? It is a produce driven, chef inspired menu that changes daily, often table to table, showcasing the best we have to offer. There are no decisions to be made as there is no printed menu. It is flexible, innovative and above all, delicious! We utilise the best produce our suppliers can provide. This may mean purchasing 10 of a particular ingredient instead of 100. It may mean utilising a whole animal instead of small parts of many. It may mean a wider variety of proteins and vegetables and being ready to change our offerings mid-service. Our Feed Me menu allows us this flexibility. We don’t need to buy in bulk, run out of menu items or ‘special’ ingredients that are in fact, exceptional. What is on our ‘Feed Me’ menu? 🤔 The truth is we don’t know. Honestly. It really does change day to day, table to table. Our ‘Feed Me’ menu came about during the early days of the dirty ‘c’ word fiasco. At the time it was due to produce scarcity and an attempt to reduce wastage when opening the restaurant during uncertain times. What we didn’t anticipate was how much people would LOVE the concept of sitting down with friends, ordering a few rounds of drinks and telling our team to just ‘Feed Me’. Three years later, our 3 course, shared ‘Feed Me’ menu is our signature menu. Our group menu. Our bbq menu. Our special event menu. It allows us to source the best produce we can and keep it local. It allows our chefs creativity and freedom of expression. It allows guests to sit, enjoy and trust our chefs to deliver deliciousness. And let’s face it, it probably saves relationships - we all have that one friend who becomes exceedingly annoying when they attempt to select food from a menu. Not with our ‘Feed Me’! So next time you come in why not be a little adventurous and close that seasonal menu. You never know what deliciousness will arrive if you just say, ‘Feed Me’!

Our MSA had a baking class in anticipation of Mother's Day to understand it from an Islamic perspective. A big thanks to @nedalbakery at @orchard_foods_grocery for instructing the class to our MSA members! It was a fun experience where students got to see a giant size commercial stand mixer at work, along with a lot of other bakery equipment, and above all, the Fire oven! Each student got to make a pie of their choice, topping, and flavors for their mothers. Not just that, but brother Nedal @nedalbakery sent each student with his delicious tray of pie as a gift to their moms. My favourite talk of the day was seeing Chris Yee (@yeetheeast) represent the Asian Australian community on the big stage.
