Chapter 4 of 12. Happy April!! And happy spring! 🦋🦋 I haven’t read this book yet, but I love the title (anything and everything witches!) and it has quotes by infamous authors in between the chapters. The synopsis also captured my attention, glowing with words like clairvoyant, omniscient, and mysterious. The story is set in Sweden and deals with mother-daughter relationships. To add to the enchantment of this book is how I surprisingly stumbled upon it. All day I’ve been trying to come up with a book with the title “April” in it to share this month or something related to spring, and I didn’t think I had one. I just happened to be cleaning my second bookcase and voila! this book appeared!! My finished books in April. Look at all those stars, I had a great reading month! I also read more books in Swedish than I usually do - April Witch (Aprilhäxan) included, I just preferred this cover and wanted to let non-Swedes know it's available in English. 😉 It won Sweden's literary award Augustpriset in '97 for a reason. Biggest surprise was the eARC of Saint Juniper's Folly by Alex Crespo, 4.25 stars, out on June 6th. ❤️ All My Rage was an excellent reading experience for me, 5 stars, and Aprilhäxan and Ett medelstort kaos such well-written books, 4.5 stars! 2008. А точніше 29.03.2008 року, тобто 15 (!) років тому. Я дуже руда і дуже в зеленому:). Просто хочу, щоб ці фото були і тут, а не тільки у покинутій соц. мережі ВК. Пощу їх сьогодні, 4 квітня з певних приватних причин:). Це була для мене дуже важлива подія, як виявилось потім. В Миколаєві проводились такі заходи, які називались «Квест» - серія ігор з завданнями на логіку і здогадливість, щоб знайти у місті «приховані позначки» і дійти до фіналу. І так, все без смартфонів і гугл мепс до речі! Замість смартфонів у команді була «людина-штаб», якій ми телефонували і вона гуглила з дому і направляла нас у потрібні місця. Це все було весело, але й виснажливо одночасно, якщо не підходило взуття і ти не взяв з собою їжу, ну і якщо не дуже спортивний 😅. А всюди треба було спішити, бо це ж змагання. В той день пам‘ятаю, що в сумці були смачні булочкі з корицею з «Сотки» (хтось пам‘ятає їх?). І ще було у мене зовсім не підходяще взуття, на яке Сєрьожа (на 1,2 фото в чорному пальто, ну і на фото з противогазом)) вказав мені при першому знайомстві і просто сказав «хм, взуття таке собі… не підходяще», маючи на увазі, що воно не для бігу:)) (а бігати треба було багато). Я тоді майже образилась, бо не зрозуміла, що мене чекає весь день😆. New month - new witch! ✨ And this April Witch is ready for an Easter egg hunt in rain, hail or shine! 🌸🌦️🐣🐇💖🌈 I thought about bringing the Southern hemisphere Autumn vibes for my April witch, since the leaves have FINALLY started falling in my part of the world 🥲🍂🍁- but I can’t help but think of baby bunnies and chicks and pretty pastel colours when I think of Easter 🌸🐣🐇💓- so I fully committed to a Spring theme for this one! 💚🌸 I like how she turned out! It was a little tricky getting her to look like she’s looking over her shoulder, and doesn’t just have her head on back to front… so hopefully I pulled that off 😅. I’m also not 100% sold on the shapes and details of my greenery/ flowers - I used the techniques that I use for bushes in the distance (vague squiggly shapes), but because her dress is front and centre I probably could have given her more complex leaf/ flower shapes… but you get the idea! 💚🌸🌼🪻 The soft rain in the background was inspired by the ‘Spring rain’ prompt from the #springartchallenge2023 - so this is my entry for that too! I was brunette! I have photos 🤣 ➡️ 4 or 5 years ago ( I can check the meta data of my photos for the exact year but that's not important. Time is one of the dimensions. I know that was in Dallas and for me, quantum girl, that's enough 🤣 That's a stupid joke for my nerds🤣) So a few years ago Dallas had an apple tree alley in downtown , on the way to the Farm's Market. Early March this alley was covered by white fragile clouds. That smell was so strong that half of downtown could feel it. One night I opened my window. Spring rain just finished, streets were washed and everything was so fresh.. Dallas enjoyed the last weeks before the summer heat I took "The Golden Apples of the Sun " from the shelf. Glass of wine, comfortable arm chair.. I was prepared to enjoy my quiet spring night. First pages of April witch.... But something distracted me Something that I barely understood, unrecognizable You know that feeling BEFORE you fall in love? That very mixed feelings of "something good happening" and fear and shivers and... Something was around. Something called - go, close your door and go outside.. to the empty streets, away from everything.. walk till sunrise That was the smell of apple blossom. Strong enough to travel 7 blocks to my place.. I didn't know about that alley, I didn't know that Dallas might have such a gem I followed the smell and I found half a mile of blooming apple trees. Pure happiness. I found a bench under the tree, was sitting there in the shadows, covered by petals, enjoying music in my headphones.. life was so good .. That night ended at @cafe_brazil_dfw in Deep Ellum, where all strange all-nighters are usually met. Once a year for one single day, a certain witch opens the door to her house for all guests to come and visit. 10 years ago today, the short story plus CD of Maaya Sakamoto's storytelling for Meteo Hoshizora's first novel for TYPE-MOON was released. Strangely enough, there are zero comedic elements to it despite taking place on April 1st or most commonly known as April Fool's. The story is honestly pretty damn depressing seeing the various moments and encounters in the life of April, the witch who has the power to turn lies into reality, who has lived an extensively long almost immortal life. While stories like Notes showed us the fragility of mortality, Shigastsu shows the pain eternal life can bring upon an individual who has been cursed with such misfortune. It's not a traditional novel length story, spanning only a mere 12 pages that can be read online and is fully translated. It's so short that I even have it saved on a note on my phone's note application. Once a year, a certain witch opens the door to her house for guests to come visit. 9 years ago today, the short story plus cd of Maaya Sakamoto's storytelling for Meteo Hoshizora's first novel for TYPE-MOON was released. Funnily enough, there are zero comedic elements to it despite taking place on April 1st. The story is a tad bit depressing seeing the various moments and encounters April, the witch who has the power to turn lies into reality, has encountered in her long almost immortal life. It's not a traditional novel length story, spanning only a mere 12 pages that can be read online fully translated. It's so short that I even have it saved on a note in my phone. Главная героиня, наделённая волшебным даром, способна проникать в каждое растение и живое создание, будь-то птица или человек. И пусть Сесси не совсем обычна, но она остаётся юной девушкой, а сердце таковой не мечтает ни о чём так, как о любви. Не так важно, кто станет предметом воздыхания, насколько имеет значение возможность познать это долгожданное и всепоглощающее чувство. Но, увы, у каждого желания есть своя цена, это закон действует даже в сказках. Рассказ пронизан дыханием весны. Летая вместе с Сесси над Иллинойсом, мы словно чувствуем запахи первых цветов, ощущаем чуть тёплый апрельский ветер, видим зарождающийся на небе месяц, слышим мурлыкание кота. Hello my witch friends!🙋🏼♀️ I'm celebrating my 35th birthday today & I figured it'd be the perfect time to say hello to this wonderful community which embraced me & made me feel home in such a short time! 💖 So if you'd like to get to know me I want to share my "journey to myself as a witch", with all of you. (Spoiler alert: there's a happy ending 😉) ☆ I was born highly sensitive & half black into a not too liberal-minded environment, grown up pretty much by myself, with a busy single mother and no close relations. Therefore my life since early childhood was dominated by self-doubt, confusion, struggling, enduring and surviving (emotional as existential). People tended to bully me & imputing the baddest about me and my intentions because I was different & misunderstood (like I experienced many of you have been, too). Nevertheless I've always been thankful for this life I'd been gifted with and was feeling the beauty & magick in every little thing 🥰 Thanks to that I refused to give up hope & happiness and while keeping that spark of belief alive, I witnessed incredible things happening, practically out of nowhere. There was no spell or ritual behind it - just the unshakeable will & trust that things were supposed to go certain ways. Since childhood I've been able to see/read moods, minds or feelings of people, knowing things before being told, initiated or even before they happened at all, which I seriously thought was normal for people to do for a long time 😄 Later on (when I found out that wasn't the case) it made me realize there had to exist something powerful, which was way ahead of the shallow mind & that I seemed to be connected to it in some way. Unfortunately I was way too busy warding of bad events that kept rolling over me again & again, so I never got deeper into the materia besides several one-time practices (like tarot or little rituals against mistreats). I didn't stick to any of these though, no matter how helpful they'd turned out to be, because I still considered all these things as haphazardly & not under my control - only available for me to apply to when I was blessed by chance. ☆ (Continued in post...⬇️)

Day six of the #aprilwitch is ritual, and I have one that involves a crystal. This is a piece of mahogany obsidian I found in Oregon. It always always comes out of my travel bag and sits beside me while I'm drivjng truck. It's my protection stone! Has a nice smooth shiny side and a rougher opposite side. I always kiss it at the end of my trips and out it back in my travel bag for the next trip. And the song... If you're Canadian you should know it! The title is Morse code for the call letters of a major Canadian airport, which is also the guitar riff.

And I carry my wallet a small book to jot down ideas or to doodle in. Day three of #aprilwitch is flame. I love cooking over a fire! There's something primal about it, like returning to the earlier days of humanity when fire was an essential part of survival. It's a way of connecting with nature and the pulse of the earth. I love the added smokiness that a fire brings to what's being cooked, and I'm a big fan of cauldrons.

Вкус пряный, с вишневым оттенком, но оставляет горечь на языке. От этой истории хочется спрятаться под плед с головой. Сюжет: Есть четыре сестры, одна из них врач - Кристина, физик - Маргарита, куртизанка-наркоманка - Биргитта, и с рождения парализованная Дезире. Девочки не родные сёстры, у трёх была одна приёмная мать - Эллен. Она бросила Дезире сразу после родов, не спишите её осуждать, тогда были 50-е года. (Врачи предполагали, что детей с отклонениями нет смысла воспитывать и чему-то учить). У других девочек судьба была не лучше, но Дезире считала иначе. Она лежала в своей кровати и придумывала план мести. Женщина обладала способностью вселяться в тела других существ, и на какое-то время захватывать их сознание. Её способности лишь дополнение к истории, здесь мистикой практически не пахнет. Только боль и беспросветная мгла, я читала и до этого тяжёлые вещи. Но исходя из названия, думала тут будет чуточку романтики, магии. Ведь написано в стиле магического реализма, но увы. Если вы готовы к описаниям: приступов эпилепсии, смердящих запахов и миллион моральных вопросов, которые автор задаёт читателю - читайте, и ещё раз читайте. Теперь звёзды, наконец, сошлись так, что и апрель на дворе, и настроение для жёсткой семейной драмы вполне подходящее 😅 ⠀ Итак, перед нами очень женская история о материнстве и сестринстве. Персонажи-мужчины есть, но где-то далеко на заднем плане. В центре же — отношения между тремя «сёстрами» — девочками из неблагополучных семей, выросшими под крылышком у одной приёмной матери. Есть и четвёртая сестра, её история самая жуткая, но не будь её — всё пошло бы совсем иначе. ⠀ При чём же тут апрель и ведьмы? Про ведьм не скажу, будет спойлер. А про апрель можно — все события происходят в один день накануне весеннего равноденствия. И погодка там в самый раз, как у нас в апреле, то солнце, то ветер, то вообще чёрте что. Майгулль Аксельссон специально приберегает самые важные истории до конца, чтобы ближе к финалу, когда все линии сойдутся в одной точке, эффектно раскрыть карты. ⠀ Мне понравилось бы больше, если бы я не читала раньше других подобных книг. Некая беда случилась в день икс, и спустя много лет семья разматывает клубок своих проблем и взаимоотношений, чтобы докопаться до правды и хоть как-то начать жить дальше. Ровно так же устроен роман «Лёд и вода, вода и лёд» той же Майгулль Аксельссон, который мне очень понравился лет 5 назад. Почти так же сделан роман «Всё, чего я не сказала», только в нём Селеста Инг препарирует более современные социальные беды. ⠀ В целом, если вы ещё не читали Майгулль Аксельссон и думаете, что Швеция — очень благополучная страна, то почитать стоит, стереотипы пошатать, да и написано хорошо, чего уж там. ⠀ Читаете скандинавских авторов?
