I'm going to break the rules here, and feature an 80's film. BUUUUUUT, the film was in production during the late 70's, so...that kinda counts right? To me, it feels more 70's than it does 80's anyway. Of course I'm talking about; John Carpenter's, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙜 (1980). I just adore this one so much, that I just needed to show it some love somewhere. To me, it's one of the best ghost stories ever put to screen. It's creepy as all get out, it takes its precious time, & it leaves you feeling uneasy til' the very end. The atmosphere is also probably some of the most palpable I've ever felt from a Horror film. No joke. The chilling score from JC himself, adds so much to this film's effectiveness. It's so morose, & melancholic, while also consistently retaining that sense of sheer dread. Add one hell of a cast to this, and you've got a Horror classic on your hands. A sure fire, bonafide, classic. It's in my top 3 Horror flicks of all time, and it still holds up impeccably well today. I'm a huge fan of the original movie by John Carpenter, so as writer Steve Ekstrom continues fills in missing pieces to the puzzle, its like a surprise party and Christmas morning all rolled into one. A few of the minor characters in the movie have become much more relevant here in the comic book. I never did trust John Houseman's character Mr. Machen. That old ghost story telling creep! If you are a fan of the movie, definitely check this one out. I'm not 100% sure this story is sanctioned by John Carpenter, but it's very well written. I'm giving Issue 03 of Sumerian Comics “the Fog” four out of five stars. I would pay to see a live action movie version of this. The Fog (1980, Dir. John Carpenter). Happy Fog Day everyone! I feel like The Fog is one of Carpenter’s more underrated films and it has taken me a few years to appreciate its greatness. The first time I saw it I was a bit underwhelmed, but with each new physical format release I’ve come to appreciate it a bit more. This new 4k is next level and really gives this film the extra love it deserves. You’ve all seen it so let’s just dive in… It’s filmed beautifully, has an intense atmosphere from the get go, and the climax is thrilling and delivers on all levels. It’s great seeing Jamie Lee back working with JC again and Tom Fucking Atkins absolutely kills it and steals the show. And the score, man the score is incredibly haunting and catchy at the same time, which is no easy feat. If you haven’t rewatched this one in a while I highly suggest grabbing the new Scream Factory 4k disc which boasts an incredible transfer. What was once lesser Carpenter, I now consider a top 5 film from the auteur and one of the best horror films of the 80’s period. The legendary 1980 film starring such actors as #jamieleecurtis and #adriennebarbeau is one of my all-time favorite #horrormovie , and in my opinion, still holds up for today's horror audiences. Shot on a shoestring budget and forced into storyline reshoots, this was John Carpenter's first breakout successes. It took forty plus years to see the light of day, thankfully though, the creators at #sumeriancomics have gifted us fans with an off-screen sequel to such a unique horror story. The year is 2022, and the descendants of those who survived the original #paranormal event in and around Antonio Bay have returned for answers. Now, a much older Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau) must rely on her son Andrew to protect those she loves from vengeful poltergeists. I'm so thrilled to see a team of modern comic book producers actually create sequels to a movie without straying from the original plot and character development. This book is a true continuation of the original storyline and expands on some of the characters only seen briefly in the 1980 film. Artist Marco Foderà even draws the characters to look like their onscreen actors. I had to chuckle as it appears Sumerian Comics couldn't secure the rights to Jamie Lee Curtis’ likeness.
