You’ll find allsorts of dark material if you really look hard. Lean into it but understand you aren’t actually your thoughts. You have to be ok with the shadow. We need to lose fear based thinking but that includes fearing the dark skeletons in your closet too. Identify these thoughts then begin to reprogram. Use meditation and affirmations, affirmate in a powerful positive way. Done twice daily preferably when you first wake and before nodding off, within a few weeks you’ll be on top of this. One of the most iconic images in the tarot, the Three of Swords displays a floating heart that is pierced by three swords. Above it, there are heavy clouds. The symbolism is pretty opaque, and the emotional effect that it has is immediate. The heart is the seat of warmth, affection and spirit, and the three swords indicate the power to harm, cause pain, and create suffering to what it pierces. This is an image of grief, loss and literally heartbreak. These symbols point to a low point in one's life. Rejection, betrayal, hurt and discouragement. In moments like these, we are well served by the mind. If you can think logically, preparing for the experience, the impact of this pain may be minimized. But remember that pain and grief are a normal part of life, because we appreciate what joy and happiness we have. It is through pain that we learn to be avoid mistakes that could lead us into danger and grief. It is a necessity in the journey of life, therefore is a depiction of suffering that is meant to make us stronger, careful and vigilant. Sometimes life gives us no choice - we are knocked down. But what determines one's future is the choice of whether to remain knocked down, or rise again. Each little piece of suffering you encounter serves as a stepping stone to find a deeper meaning in this world. While the grief may be extremely hurtful, it enables you to forget your past and focus on the next stage, knowing have control of what actions you take. Don’t dwell on what is troubling you, instead focus on what is approaching, because you determine your fate. If you’re in a relationship, this can point to a breakup, a conflict, or some kind of separation. The worst case scenario, since this card is a three, it can point to a third party creating trouble in your relationship. Facing difficult problems in order to remain together. Today’s Three of Swords card comes from The Hollow Valley Tarot by Davis Carr & Erin Alise of @thehollowvalley. My eye goes automatically to what looks like a mandrake root (bottom/middle), which is a plant that is known to both cure & kill. When used correctly, it can be a helpful anesthetic, a talisman to protect & ward of evil. But too much or misuse of certain plant parts can poison and cause much irreversible harm. There are no people present in the Three of Swords or in the Eight of Wands. These are the only cards in the deck that completely lack any imagery that is human or animal related. It makes me think that for these cards, the action or event is what is important and not who is responsible or caused it to happen. Both of these cards have a focus on the sky too, implying maybe there is a spiritual energy involved, that things were meant to be, whether good or bad. In the Three of Swords, we see the swords piercing a heart, indicating there is a great pain or difficult situation the person needed to experience, but it ultimately ends up allowing them to grow. It may also mean someone had to cut something or someone out of their life in order to create a space for healing and growth, the theme of the Threes. (Look back at my prior posts about the numerological themes in Tarot) In the Eight of Wands, we see the wands flying through the air, but they all lined up, parallel and nicely spaced apart, implying things are lined up in your favor, your talents and ambitions are being put to good use, giving you that personal sense of strength and confidence associated with theme of the Eights.
