A new work from my recent exhibition STRANGER WITHIN. The attributes of a white shirt that seduce, its pristine quality, are also those that paradoxically prevent it being worn. This “pristine quality” relies on rejection; rejection of direct contact and the staining that might come from it, rejection of environment and corporeal messiness to the point of precluding the garment from bodily inhabitation. Multiple white shirts sit in my wardrobe, as refined, self-sufficient surfaces, lovingly touched and stroked from time-to-time but rarely worn. A representation of an ideal state preserved only through total disembodiment. You might find a gem in the rough. 🎁 BONUS TIP Sometimes, all you need is to step back. Leave what you’re trying to do and do something completely different.
