This week is Dementia Action Week. Dementia Action Week seeks to take action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. Receiving a dementia diagnosis can leave a person feeling very alone, we want to help raise awareness of how it impacts the daily lives of people affected by the condition and challenge the stigma that surrounds it. We will be testing the new script out with audiences in #Leamington, #Coventry and #Nuneaton in July (12,15,18) and also delivering some #dementiaawareness training and some lovely music and arts and crafts workshops with local #olderpeople and #dementia cafes. It’s #fridayfundraiser and today we want to shine a light on Team LifeCare, who will be running 26.2 miles at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, as part of the Hairy Haggis Relay💚 Our CEO Sarah (pictured), her husband Steven, our Business Relations Manager Stephen (pictured) and Outreach worker Nicola will be splitting the 26.2 mile distance into 4 legs on Sunday the 26th of May, to raise vital funds in support of LifeCare. On taking on this challenge, Sarah said: ‘Working at LifeCare is a privilege and each day we see and hear the difference our support makes, to those we support and their unpaid carers. But, like all charities, we are facing rising costs, increased demand for our support and cuts to funding. This year 4 of us are taking on Hairy Haggis relay (possibly the only way any of us will complete a marathon) in order to raise funds to help ensure we can keep delivering our vital services. Totally 21,716 people in Japan died alone at home from January through March this year, nearly 80% of whom were 65 or older, the National Police Agency said Monday as it released an official tally on solitary deaths for the first time. According to government statistics, the percentage of single-person households stood at 36% in 2020 — with the percentage expected to remain high in the future. The percentage of those age 65 and older was 28.6% in 2020 and is also expected to rise further. Quoted from an article in Japan Times This is shocking data. It is an undeniable fact that Japan is becoming an aging society. However, many probably do not know that many of the elderly are dying alone. In fact, it is a reality that many people probably did not want to know. Anyway, we must face this reality. Living alone does not immediately lead to solitary death.
