Be kind to yourself. As much as that means treat yourself with love, eat well, strive for good health and wellness, exercise etc… It also means - Eat the cake! Swear, enjoy your body and others’, have a pint or a glass, smoke a cigarette if you bloody want to - live with pride, not in shame! Dependencies will ruin you. They’ll keep you in fear of loss. Each and every one. Some common, and often overlooked, dependencies: - our aesthetic “beauty” - the company of others - validation from others - physical touch - the illusion of control - comfort - taste With awareness we can enjoy without being “worsted” by pleasures. See our choices and make them mindfully. We can ask ourselves “Did I really choose x, or just mindlessly do x?” My goal is freedom. I can’t be free if pleasures are my master, and if they worsen me. I feel free when I walk away from a pleasure knowing I don’t need it. 🌕 Today, March 7th, is a full moon. If the moon's gravity controls our Earth's tides from 384,400 km away, think about what the moon could affect in us. The light and gravity of the moon affect many species of earth and water animals. Nature can be a great teacher, so why not be open to what we can learn from the moon? It has so much power upon our earth that it would be safe to assume the moon can affect us. The moon can represent the physical and emotional body, so the full moon is a time to mindfully bring awareness to both. I have not felt like sharing much recently, so I took an unplanned break from social media. . The last couple of weeks were made of last minute trips to see my family, change, endings. . In all that, I’ve decided to simply take one thing at the time, step by step, enjoying the gift of living the human experience. . How do you quiet your mind? . The real answer? 👇 You don’t. And you don’t need to in order to find peace. . My mind is hyperactive. I’ve always struggled to focus on one thing only, always hyper vigilant to the changes around and inside me. . I thought there must be a secret to stopping the thoughts. . Over 10 years ago, when I first started doing yoga, I really struggled with the concept of achieving a “quiet mind”. . The thought of meditation was completely foreign and absurd to me. . It took time and research to realize that it’s impossible to “empty your mind” - our mind is meant to think! . What we can do, is practice FOCUS. Directing our attention to one thing at the time. Finding a state of FLOW. Being mindful. . How do you learn that? With practice. . I find that state of focus with movement practices, mindfulness, cold immersion, drawing, work. These are the times where I can streamline my thoughts and be present in the moment. . What helps you create that state of peace and focus? .
