Shibori, Dabu and Batik: Two different forms of craft but at the same time we need to work with cold dyes with them otherwise the entire “mehnat” goes into waste because the print that you make with either Dabu Mud resist or with Batik Wax Resist, if you use hot water then it will melt/ rub them away! My journey in prints always start with shibori. I love the versatile nature of shibori that how with just a string, rope, dal , whatever you can find even rocks! Shibori can be done and that has initiated my interest in print making! . I have been studying about the printing process for quite some time now! I have been extremely thrilled to know that the possibilities of natural dyes do not end (ever) you just keep exploring and I can’t tell you how much I have loved exploring in natural dyes! I have loved working with such things! Experimenting and creating. And all the credit goes to you all! . Also thank you @dinesh_chhipa_bagru for introducing this to me! I have hopelessly called for this technique and together we will create amazing experiments and really good work! . My next task is to keep on exploring new prints and the color possibilities! Gestern habe ich angefangen diesen wunderschöne Wolle-Seide-Mischung zu verspinnen, die ich schon vor zwei Monaten gefärbt hatte. Normalerweise färbe ich nach dem Spinnen, aber hier hatte ich den Kammzug spontan mit in den Topf geworfen, weil noch Platz war. Eigentlich spinne ich auch lieber aus dem Vlies, aber diese Mischung gab es nur als Kammzug und so langsam gewöhne ich mich daran. Sind hier noch mehr Handspinner? I collaborated with #ferns for a weeks. I sat with ferns many times during the process. Listening and learning. When I look at this piece it feels soft. I love the light purple from the #Logwood allows the ferns to stand out and I love it! Gentle, delicate, strong, jungle... I recently started working with ferns. They are extremely beautiful. The other night I had a dream- the dream was a message- the message was: Every time you are working with a plant you are working with the spirit of the plant. Personally: Working with ferns has brought a unique kind of peace within me. I feel lots of expansion and serenity in my crown and 6th. There is a feeling of relaxation and ease. Online: Ferns symbolize sincerity towards others. It can also be a symbol of magic, fascination, confidence, shelter, discretion, reverie and a secret bond of love. Fern Symbolism The fern symbolizes eternal youth. To the indigenous Maori of New Zealand, the fern represented new life and new beginnings. To the Japanese, the fern symbolizes family and the hope for future generations. According to Victorians, the fern symbolized humility and sincerity. Lessons I’ve learned extracting logwood- is a tropical tree from Belize and South America. It produces incredible, deep purples- The first time I extracted I saved a couple of containers so I can use it again. I was so excited to have such an inventory. 3 months since the first extraction I tried to use it and nothing :( The dye lost its mojo. I had no idea that would happen so now I know. I had to extract again! Which was fun! Now I need a reminder that I only have 1-2 months to use it. May this post serve as a postmark. NEW RECIPE: Japanese Knotweed Paper composite by @marinabelintani To create a project which aims at using the entirety of a resource is a hard goal to achieve. Marina has contributed recipes which range from bioplastics to inks and these include a multitude of techniques and potential applications. To complete this, she has also developed a material which is a biocomposite using is 100% natural ingredients and includes waste: the discarded stems which so often in natural dyeing, could get thrown away. In a broader perspective, many of parts of plants are discarded and burnt as a result of agriculture practices, manufacturing and industry processes that mean valuable resources and plant nutrients are lost in addition to air pollution increasing.
