"Why did you move to Belgium?!" I posted a reel about a month ago showing different parts of Devon; the area of England where I'm from. Since then I've been asked the same question several times "Why did you move to Belgium?!" The simple answer to that is... For love 💕 My partner Angelo is Belgian and after a few years doing long distance and 1 year travelling around Asia together, someone had to move! I decided to move to Belgium before all the Brexit changes came into place (which would have made things much more difficult). So far, I've never regretted that decision. It's been challenging at times but I've enjoyed learning a new language, making new friends, building up my yoga business, and making a home together with my man and our beautiful dog, Jane. ♥️♥️♥️ Here are my "top 5 things I love about living in Belgium": 1) Living in a small, borderless country within the EU, surrounded by other interesting countries. Nothing is far away in Belgium; you can reach the other side within a few hours of driving! I love that we can just pop to France for dinner and visit other neighbouring countries to go skydiving! Travelling is way easier now I'm not on an island. 2) We pay more taxes+insurance but the public services, social care and healthcare systems are amazing (and I should know; I've used them!) 3) Living close to beautiful cities like Bruges & Gent and being able to visit and cycle around them whenever we like, especially out of the main tourist seasons! And it's flat so cycling is easy 😉 4) Saunas/spas where everyone can feel comfortable and accepted just being in their own skin 🦵🦶 5) This one is obvious really... The best beer, chocolate, frietjes (chips!) pancakes & waffles in the WORLD!! 🌎 🍻 🍫 🍟🧇 It's a good thing I have a physical job! 😃 Do I miss Devon? To be honest I do sometimes miss the vast, breathtaking nature. But luckily Devon is only a (long) car ride away 😋 As are other beautiful places like Switzerland! All in all, I feel pretty lucky to live here and to be able to call 2 countries "home" 😍

My { 5 } favourite perennials from my first year gardening: [1] Rose ‘Sweet Honey’ - despite the colour clashing with everything else in my garden, this rose flowered on and on and on and on into deep winter! A bush rose, its flowers are a classic, elegant shape and the colour changes as they bloom are extraordinarily beautiful. [2] Sidalcea ‘Little Princess’ - this might have been my favourite of all. The flowering spires are so beautiful. I mistakenly planted it at the front of a border, but in the end I’m glad - it deserved to take centre stage! [3] Hesperantha coccinea ‘Pink Princess’ - another Princess! 👸growing beside the Sidalcea above, the combination took my breath away. These Flag Lilies are part of the Iris family which might explain my affinity to them (irises are my favourite flower of all). I didn’t take a good photograph of them which is unforgivable. I just hope they come back again this year… [4] Gypsophila ‘Festival Pink’ - ok, so in hindsight I would have planted a white Gypsophila but poor Baby’s Breath gets such a bad rep and it is HEAVEN adding texture to a border. I don’t have a good photo of it at its peak but I think that’s because it’s a backing singer rather than a soloist. I think I’ll always try and add Gypsophila to grow up between other perennials to have that lovely, spangled, starry element. [5] Cosmos atrosanguineus (‘Chocolate Cosmos’) - stunning in a border AND as cut flowers, it is the deep, velvet colour and the disorderly growth that made this a favourite of mine. So dramatic. The other day Andy came into my (rather untidy at the time) craft room, looked around and said.... “If you had to clear out this room and only keep five things, what would they be?” It’s a good question and here are my answers, though it did take a lot of thought and deliberation to settle on just five. 1 - Sewing Machine – I just love to sew paper. 2 - Big Scissors – I have many pairs of scissors, of all differing types and sizes but the big ones I use for fussy cutting are my absolute favourites. 3- Finger Daubers – Though small they are a big part of my crafting process. 4- Tacky Glue – If I could only have one glue it would be tacky glue as it is so versatile. 5 -Vintage Photo Ink – I know there are others out there, but I always come back to the good old trusty Vintage Photo ink pad. With those five things and a bit of recycling, I’m good to go, though I do wish he said “fifty things.” #MyTop5 #happinessincrafting
