On a mission to finish up some WIPs ✨ does this backing work? Maybe if I do off-white sashiko quilting? 🤔🍎 It has been a pretty full on few days over here! I am participating in a group show at @fjallravenofficial on 147 West Broadway under the curatorship of @sean.alistair who has been amazing to work with. The opening event is July 5 2024 from 5pm to 8pm PST, and you will have to RVSP (directly message me for the link). The closing of the show will be August 9 from 5pm to 8pm and with the same 20% promotion for guests. There will be a 20% discount on all regular-priced products. For the necklaces with the little barnacles on the sides, I wanted them to look like they were plucked out of tidal pool themselves. Weathered and worn. I removed the oxidization as I usually do, a soft scuff around the rim. But I also wanted them to look perhaps a bit rusty and have the finish be more irregular, like waves had rolled them around rocks and sand and you just stumbled upon them at the beach. So I tumbled them just enough to pull away a bit of the top oxidation on the bottom rims, as opposed to leaving them a deep black how I usually do. And I am so pleased with how they turned out. They look like ancient relics pulls from the ocean, chipped and worn, beautiful and organic. “Summer Bouquet” designed and made by yours truly, Jill Huntington. I made this mini quilt to include in an exhibit at Powell’s Bookstore in downtown Portland with @portlandmqg. If you’re in the area, check out the collection in the Basil Hallward Gallery on the top floor of Powell’s during June and July! To construct this, I tried out a new-to-me technique… collage-style raw edge appliqué. Oops, I did it again. Another Helen's Closet Reynolds Dress, the Winter Edition! It's been getting pretty cold here, the coldest Autumn I've remembered in my 7 years in Auckland and so I had a good excuse for another cosy corduroy dress. This one has some more significant changes than just the fabric. I wanted a more fitted look so added fisheye type darts at the waist front and back and added an invisible zip to the back. And I can't get enough of it! ____________________________________________ Pattern : #reynoldsdress by @helens__closet Fabric: Peacock cotton corduroy from @harmerandhuff Adjustments: This is a size 16 with no overall size adjustments. I shortened the pattern and cut the fabric just below the start of the side split on the pattern. To add the zipper I split the back facing into two down the centre and added 1cm to the central edge to give me some seam allowance. To add the darts I didn't follow any proper process. I knew I wanted to add darts, but waited until the dress was sewn and pinched out what I needed and sewed in the pinched out fabric into a graduated half oval shape. The light picks up the dart edges a bit too much on the photo, IRL they are much more smooth in terms of how they look! ____________________________________________

Pyramid Mountain At Dusk, Hand Embroidery and Watercolour on Linen, 2024 This piece depicts Pyramid Mountain in Jasper Park in Alberta at dusk, with the setting sun casting orange and golden light only on the western edges and slopes, the rest being cloaked in encroaching purple shadows, with the forests below also darkening. This is the third of four pieces depicting Pyramid Mountain in the silhouette of a man crouched and in a contemplative fetal position. The sky was done with watercolours from @beampaints and are gradient from orange to pink to purple.

Others have beautiful, intricate pillars climbing through the stone, like coral reefs at the bottom of a clear pool. And others, my particular favorites, and black or golden rutiles cutting through the clear stone. And these ones look for all the world like spiky little urchin friends toddling along at the bottom of a tide pool. I love these ones best.
