Olive oil, orange peel, cinnamon and some light soft caramels and cantaloupe Mouth: Quite light. Vague notes of olive oil, orange peel, cinnamon and cane sugar syrup. Short-medium length finish with a medium oily mouthfeel Overall: For the longest time this was the only lightly aged Agricole available in Alberta. So I've had lots of use out of this, both neat and in cocktails. The palate is fairly muted, especially when tasted next to the Rhum J.M Gold. The proof really doesn't do it any favours here. The flavour profile is nice, but again it's quite muted. The biggest thing for me is the mouthfeel though. Decently oily for only a 40% rum. Price wise this is about the same as the JM, and that's really the caveat. I actually liked the Saint James Ambre more, and that's almost half the price, so it's hard to see where this sits on the Alberta market. The mid palate introduces some soft caramels to the mix before morphing into more of a raw cane sugar note. That orange starts to take over the light, but long finish. Medium oily mouthfeel Overall: Easily the best lightly aged Agricole that I've tried. The extra proof provides the much needed oomph to help carry the flavours. Not overly complex but the flavour profile is spot on. Reminds me of Christmas, with the heavy cinnamon and orange notes. Light oily mouthfeel with a short-medium finish Overall: When put up against the other Blanc Agricole's in this series of reviews this bottle falls severely short. Not a ton of complexity, and the mouthfeel and finish is lacking. The flavour profile is quite weird too. I'm not really sold on that. Martinique is well-known and loved for its rhum agricole - produced using fresh sugar cane juice as opposed to heavier molasses. This creates an incredibly aromatic and elegant style of rum that has clinched Martinique its own AOC designation, the first outside of Europe. Thus far the distillery's flagship range of expressions stretches from unaged white rums to a 15 year old rhum vieux, and so the addition of an 18 year old tres vieux rhum will be the oldest in the range yet. “This very old rum is the result of an exceptional aromatic concentration without topping after eighteen years of aging in our cellars in a tropical climate in Sainte-Marie. . Structured with strong woody notes, its finely spicy fruity flavors reveal a round and smooth finish. #FanaticOnTour2024 - stacja 2 - #Depaz #Martynika Po wizycie w La Favorite ruszyłem na północ, zachodnią częścią wyspy. Pagórki, wąskie drogi, dużo zieleni. Wraz ze zbliżaniem się do destylarni, plaże robiły się czarniejsze, na widoku coraz bliżej zaczął być widoczny wulkan Pelée. Zresztą po drodze, w miejscowości Saint-Pierre, mija się pomnik ofiar wybuchu wulkanu z 1902 roku. Depaz jest mniej znaną u nas marką, może trochę bardziej znana jest siostrzana marka Dillon, która też jest tam produkowana. A produkuje bardzo dobrą paletę rumów, w całej szerokości. Natomiast na wyspie, rumy Depaz są bardzo przystępne i mają bardzo dobry stosunek jakości do ceny. Po dojechaniu, ukazał się piękny podjazd i widok. Tak, taki widok z biura to ja mógłbym mieć :) Pięknie usytuowana, na osłonecznionym zboczu, z bezpośrednią ekspozycją na Morze Karaibskie. Jak dodamy do tego ziemię wulkaniczną, to mamy piękny wpływ natury, terroir na te pola trzciny, które się pięknie zlewały na horyzoncie z morzem. Destylarnie można zwiedzić za darmo. Są i tutaj wyznaczone ścieżki, większość napisów jest w dwóch językach. Na koniec bardzo dobrze wyposażony sklep, w którym spróbujemy dwa sample za darmo. Opcjonalnie, można zwiedzić posiadłość, piękny dom dawnego właściciela - Victora Depaza. Koszt - 5Eur, ma się do tego jeden sampel gratis w sklepie. Zwiedzanie bardzo mi się podobało. Zwłaszcza piękne kolumny, których było aż 3. Teren jest bardzo duży, malowniczy, widok z posiadłości, wraz z ogrodem przednim niesamowity. Jedyny minus, to schowany za szybą magazyn starzenia beczek. Szkoda, zwłaszcza że inne miejsca (jak np JM czy Clement) zrobiły z tego etapu zwiedzania niesamowitą sprawę. Sampling dobry, można spróbować linii aromatyzowanej, podstawowej oraz starzonej do Depaz XO. Poczęstowano nas też lekko schłodzonym rumem białym, zmacerownym z tamtejszymi ziarnami kawy i laskami wanilii. Oj, pyszne to było, będę kombinował, żeby taką miksturę w domu zrobić. Sklep bardzo obszerny i dobrze wyposażony. Idzie dobre zakupy zrobić w rozsądnych cenach. The smallest distillery in Martinique, Neisson is a giant in the world of rum, capable of turning out armadas of flagships that sail magnificently down the passage of time. Composed of rums laid down to mature in the years 2004 (300 litres), 2000 (20 litres) and 1997 (20 litres), this anniversary edition was unveiled as a sophisticated and very precise blend. Grégory Vernant-Neisson, head of the distillery, pays particular attention to the quality of each Armada bottle in tribute to Martinique. Had a fun afternoon learning about the distillery process of rum at La Mauny Distillery in Martinique. Although it was conducted entirely in French 😳 I was able to travel around the distillery in a little train and read about the history and learn the processes that La Mauny take to produce their award winning rum. Many aspects of the rum 🥃 making process are similar to wine 🍷 production, like the use of stainless steel tanks, ageing in oak barrels, and quality requirements to be considered an AOC rum 🏅 Fun Fact: To be an aged rum, the liquid gold must rest in an oak barrel for a minimum of three years. These then fade through the short-medium length finish. Watery mouthfeel with a slight hint of oiliness Overall: Quite enjoyable for something made for mixing. A good balance of savoury, oak and sweet. Not super complex but enough flavours there to keep it interesting. This cuvee marries specially selected casks of well-aged vintage stock from one of Martinique’s last remaining independent distilleries, La Favorite.
