Post by @palestinianyouthmovement This Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, we honor the compass of our struggle, our prisoners who continue to resist the Zionist regime from behind bars, as well as those who have ascended to martyrdom. As of April 2024, there are 9,400 Palestinian political prisoners held by the Zionist state. More than 200 are children. Half of these political prisoners have been abducted since October 7, 2023, including more than 4,000 laborers from Gaza and 1,000 from the West Bank. 3,661 prisoners are being held under a status called “administrative detention” without charge or trial. Palestinian prisoners exist at the forefront of resistance to Zionism. Military courts and imprisonment are used by Israel to suppress Palestinian national leadership, to punish those who resist the settler state, to break apart families and the Palestinian social fabric, and to collectively punish Palestinians. The modern Palestinian Prisoners Movement originated in the 1970s, following the Zionist military occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem. Prisoners organized themselves into a powerful collective to engage in revolutionary thought and resistance tactics such as hunger strikes. The prisoners’ movement demands that the unity of the prisoners be reflected on the ground. In doing so, they lead by example in their vision for a liberated Palestine, from the river to the sea. Power to every one of our political prisoners, whose resistance continues from the inside prison walls. Delbert Africa, quien ganó su libertad en enero de 2020 después de 41 años encarcelado, perdió su vida hace unos días [junio 2020] por los estragos del cáncer. Al salir de prisión, Delbert consultó con algunos médicos quienes estaban horrorizados al saber de las drogas que le dieron mientras estaba en la prisión Dallas en el estado de Pensilvania. Un doctor dijo: “Los medicamentos que usaban en esa prisión eran venen0". Aun así, Delbert terminó su estancia en prisión fuerte en espíritu. Amaba a la Organización MOVE y odiaba el podrido sistema. Más de una década antes de la golpiza p0liciaca propinada a Rodney King y grabada en video en L.A., Delbert fue golpeado por cuatro p0licí4s de Filadelfia el 8 de agosto de 1978, y la golpiza se grabó por una emisora local. El video muestra que Delbert salió sin armas de una ventana del sótano de su casa después de un enfrentamiento con la p0licí4. Con su torso d3snud0, se había levantado los brazos en un gesto de aceptar la detención. Inmediatamente cuatro p0licí4s lo rodearon y lo g0lpearon salvajemente, p3gándole con la cacha de sus rifl3s, apl4stando su cabeza con un casco de motocicleta, y p4teándolo hasta que perdió la consciencia. Sí, es lo que hicieron. Delbert sufrió una fractura de mandíbula y un ojo hinchado del tamaño de un huevo de Pascua. Y esa brutalidad no se limitó a las calles del Oeste de Filadelfia, tampoco al injusto juicio y condena de Delbert y otros integrantes de MOVE. Continuó durante 41 años en un encierro agota-almas y de una atención médica lastimosa. Delbert aguantó todo y salió libre con su alma de revolucionario negro intacto.
