I wanted to read this book because
1. I love Dolly Parton and
2. I was interested in reading about her thoughts and stories behind some of her more famous songs over the years.
As much as I wanted to love this book, I just didn’t click with it. The book is very fragmented and doesn’t flow very well in my opinion. This hurts because some of the stories she tells about these songs are truly interesting, but it doesn’t go in a linear fashion like typical memoirs, which I’m not sure if that was the point or not. I was hoping more of 12 songs I did from the beginning of my career to now and here’s I got from then to now and the stories that went with it and that just didn’t happen. I felt like she went back and forth between time periods as she remembered it. Which is how most people talk about things when they’re remembering stuff but it just didn’t work as a book.
I gave this book between 2.5 to 3 stars only because it’s Dolly and some of the stories really were good.
