I’m really bad at holidays. I don’t enjoy forced get togethers, the “she didn’t buy me a thing so she doesn’t love me,” or the fact that it’s the only time we hear from some folks. I prefer the random acts of love, the I saw this and thought of you, the small and random reminders that aren’t maintained by a calendar. So many holidays come from dark beginnings. So many things in life do. So, if holidays remind me of anything it is that only through the darkness and brutality can we meet the light. It is all around us, and how we meet it in battle depends on us and the band of brothers and sisters we’ve brought with us. If any holiday reminds me of the family I have created through the darkness it is today. It’s been a long and hard road, and there’s so many that didn’t make it this far. I’ve gained and lost. I’ve succeeded and failed. I’ve seen the struggles of my folk around me, and my heart has ached for them in those times and burst with happiness in the times of their joys. I am grateful every day to reach the sunrise of a new dawn, and today I look around me and see my fortune in those faces that look back in the wintry morn. Yesterday started off with a beautiful sunrise. We woke up early, packed lunch and arrived at the ferry port. As we sat in the departure lounge our tour was cancelled due to a covid protocol, we were pretty disappointed. We asked our AirBnB host if he had any recommendations and he suggested visiting a smaller island with a nice tea room. We popped to the pod and unpacked our lunch and then headed to a much smaller ferry port. We visited Kerrera Island and walked to Gylen Castle, to top off the day the tea rooms were closed. Nevertheless we had a peaceful walk along the island and rarely saw other people. The scenery was beautiful and the good weather continued. By the time we made it back to Oban we were ravenous so we headed straight for a late lunch/ early dinner.
