I am shown and told things in this work that I couldn’t possibly know. I was taught to track and remove objects, crystalized energies, that stay with your soul throughout space & time. The new abbey quickly became a powerful mission center and is today one of the #outstanding stone testimonies of monastic #culture. Corvey is still a living place of #faith. In the jubilee year 2022/23, the parish of St. Stephen and Vitus Corvey is honoring the spiritual and #historical significance of this jewel with an attractive program of celebrations. The celebrations also give an impression of how one of the smallest parishes in #Germany helps such a #magnificent building and #cultural monument to flourish again. #7in7 Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey - #UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 Middle Ages meets #Baroque: The world heritage site of #Corvey near #Höxter makes it possible. The baroque former #abbey #church adjoins the ground floor hall of the #Carolingian #Westwork with its sensational Corinthian capitals. In addition to its impressive furnishings, this houses a special #treasure: the famous spring chest organ from 1681. The baroque instrument returned to its exposed place on the gallery supported by angels in the summer of 2021 after extensive #restoration and #reconstruction. The organ is one of the most important in #Europe. The queen of instruments with its 32 registers and around 2000 pipes is not only a testament to the regional cultural history but also its international standing. Because its builder Andreas Schneider lived in Höxter as well as the sculptor Thomas Freden, who created the magnificent prospect. This front makes the organ in Corvey unmistakable, also in view of the shape of the surviving front pipes with their angel tongues. #7in7 Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey - #UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 The motto of the planned multimedia development of the #Westwork, "Guarded by #angels - the #heavenly city", refers to the text of an inscription from the early days of the #monastery almost 1200 years ago: "Protect, o Lord, this city and let your angels guard it being walls.” Monks from the #Benedictine #abbey in the bend of the #Weser near #Höxter had this request to #God carved in stone. The blessing goes to the Civitas – the former monastery district, which has been archaeologically proven and preserved as an archaeological #monument. A copy of the inscription reminds us of the blessing of the men of God on the distinctive twin-tower facade of the westwork. The original has its place in the "Johanneschor". The inscribed tablet identifies the monastery and #church as an #earthly image of the heavenly #Jerusalem. A #scientific team of experts from the Archdiocese of Paderborn, headed by Professor Dr. Christoph Stiegemann designed this moving multimedia #journey through time. The starting point is the ground floor hall of the #Westwork. An exciting film is projected onto a glass wall that separates the #Carolingian central building from the adjacent baroque abbey church and that can be switched to opaque to 95 percent. As part of this large-scale projection, the scientists are resurrecting the lost Carolingian basilica in a virtual reconstruction (photo collage). #Spellbound by these spatial impressions, the guests in the "Johanneschor" can look over the shoulders of the mural painters of the Carolingian period with tablets. You will experience the sublime sacred space in its original form with #painting and #stucco. #7in7 Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey - #UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 One of the unique selling points of the Corvey World Heritage site in the Weser bend near #Höxter are the fragmentary wall paintings from the 9th century in the Johannes choir of the #Westwork. They give an idea of the rich decorative painting with which the #architecture was adorned. In addition to painted acanthus tendrils, friezes and palmettes, figurative representations also attract attention: in one of the aisles, Odysseus fights against the sea monster Scylla. This scene from Greek mythology, Homer's "Odyssey", is the only surviving example north of the Alps in its depiction. The Corvey monks reinterpreted the scene as Christian. The St. John's Choir is the liturgical center of the Westwork, consecrated in 885, and heart chamber of the world heritage. West vastasi yhteistyökumppaninsa @gladmedia.fi kanssa brändivideon ja -kuvien tuotannosta kaikilta osin - käsikirjoituksesta, ohjaamisesta, järjestelyistä ja kuvauksesta. Prosessissa sen jokainen vaihe on tärkeä ja jokainen rooli merkityksellinen. Meillä Westissä ei tunneta käsitetä ’heikko lenkki’. Kuvauspäivä oli pitkä ja tiivis, mutta ei yllätyksiä täynnä. Hyvällä suunnittelulla ja kaiken kattavalla valmistautumisella voidaan taklata monta haastetta jo ennen kuin niitä ehtii edes tulla. Tehdään mieluummin vähän liikaa kuin liian vähän.
