Melanie made two rings today. She had never done any wax carving here so in our 3 hr we covered materials, tools, sizing, basic carving, shaping and then moved onto smoothing and more measured shaping with the wave ring. From here she will cast and use my online beginners course to finish off as she’s just visiting. She did a terrific job. I love teaching these classes. Every session gives back to me and leaves me just as inspired as the students.
All set up for a private tuition class today- beginners hard wax carving. I will show you some pics later. We are covering the basics and making two rings in a 3 hr session. Wax carving does get faster as you become more experienced but I still love to take my time, put some nice music on and just enjoy the creative experience.

De ontstane ruimte (het negatief van het wasmodel) kan nu worden gevuld met bijv. brons. Niet alleen het wasmodel gaat bij dit proces verloren, ook de vuurvaste mal zal hierbij vergaan. Voor elk bronzen afgietsel zal er dus 1 (gecorrigeerd) wasmodel benodigd zijn. Met onze siliconen mallen kunnen talloze wasmodellen worden gegoten.

I'm not sure if my Zoology mistress (Miss Bevan) would be horrified or pleased to see the state of my school dissecting kit. I even have one of the original scalpels. It has been adapted to hold all my sculpting tools for wax. To make my animal sculptures in bronze the wax model needs to be worked over with heated metal tools before being cast. Non sono sicuro che la mia insegnante di zoologia (Miss Bevan) sarebbe inorridita o contenta di vedere lo stato del mio kit da dissezione a scuola. Ho anche uno dei bisturi originali. È stato adattato per contenere tutti i miei strumenti per scolpire la cera.
