My event Engelchen premiered in Sunderland last year (where Ida & Louise were born) & I’m delighted to announce that I am now producing it again in Balham, where they spent over 60 years of their lives. This is a matinee show (2pm on Saturday 22 June ) so, good for transport etc if you wanted to travel into London! It takes place at the beautiful @thebedfordpub (as pictured). As well as my music, this will include a talk on the lives & work of the sisters by Professor Angela Smith. @hilaireinlondon & Joolz Sparkes will read Hilaire’s poem about the Cooks from their joint poetry project. I will be working with local refugee charity @caras_ldn & there will be participation from members of this group. The set will be similar to Sunderland with a gramophone playing music they listened to at the time but there will also be relevant artefacts displayed from Wandsworth Council’s Heritage collection / archive . Presenting the Battersea Jazz Festival fundraiser in collaboration with Wandsworth Arts Fringe. On Friday 14th June at 8pm, the riverside church of St Mary’s (a host of many jazz events in the last few years), will be the setting of a very fun evening of live jazz, with all money raised going to the running costs of the 2024 Battersea Jazz Festival. Audience members are invited to turn up and make donations in return for requesting their favourite jazz tunes (there will also be means of donating in advance online), eventually turning the night into a fun-filled auction. Tunes will be played by festival founder, pianist and singer @hugojenningsmusic, as well as his trio, featuring @lorenzo_morabito on bass and @louis_brown_music on drums. Here I am embarking on a fresh art series titled “The Tarot of Southwest London,” where I will be painting real people and places from my hometown in Wandsworth as modern-day Tarot cards on large canvas. Spreading the Joy! 😁👽 Yesterday was the first performance of our professional children’s theatre show ‘Spreading the Joy!’ funded by @wimbledonfdn and @londoncommunityfoundation 🪐 Our audience had a blast journeying across the universe with Wendell the Space Alien in search for their missing moon rocks, learning valuable lessons along the way about kindness, connection with others and celebrating the things that bring us joy! ⚡️🚀 ‘My son said his favourite part was the whole thing’ ‘We loved the talk around emotional well-being’ ‘Funny, engaging and conveyed an important message around feelings and self confidence’ ‘We loved how interactive it was for the children’ We’ll be performing at Alton Arts Hub on Wednesday 10th April and other venues across Wandsworth as part of @wandsworthartsfringe 2024! First up, comedian, author, broadcaster, and arts producer, Rosie Wilby is set to take over @thebedfordpub and @exhibitbalham in Balham, 13-16 June, with her exciting programme of cabaret, comedy and spoken word! ✨✨ Rosie's podcast @breakupmonologues is a multiple award nominee and the inspiration behind a companion book, published globally by Bloomsbury. Rosie also hosted an award-winning LGBTQ magazine show on South London’s celebrated anarchic radio station Resonance FM for a decade and particularly loves to champion marginalised voices. Rosie’s programme for WAF 2024 will reflects her passion for inclusion and places a particular focus on the LGBTQ community. Set off from Battersea Power Station Tube, documenting your impressions through stories, sketches and gathered texts. The walk will end at @575wandsworthroadnt, the home of polymath Khadambi Asalache, a civil servant who expressed his creativity through writing, painting and interior design. I’m very happy to have been successful in a Wandsworth Arts Fringe grant to stage Engelchen in Wandsworth. My first production was held in Sunderland, where Ida & Louise Cook spent their early lives. They lived in Battersea for over 60 years so, it feels fitting that the 2nd performance should be in this borough. Leading up to the event, I’ll be working with refugees local to the area.
