Video installatie ‘The story behind an image’ in de Kleine Zaal van De Vishal. Regelmatig heb ik foto’s van de tentoonstellingen in de Kleine Zaal voor Art Walk Haarlem gemaakt en super leuk dat ik dit keer zelf exposeer in deze bijzondere tentoonstellingsruimte aan de Grote Markt in Haarlem! De videoinstallatie ‘The story behind an image’ ontstaat in het Herdenkingsjaar Slavernijverleden 2023/2024. Ik reflecteer in dit werk op ‘blackness’ en hoe dit mij beïnvloedt. Het uitgangspunt en voorganger hiervan is mijn videowerk ‘Hiding behind an image’ uit 2021. In dit werk vouwde ik een papieren zelf stap voor stap op, om letterlijk en figuurlijk te verdwijnen of te ‘schuilen’ achter een zelfportret, een image van mijzelf. Dat is nu andersom. Voor deze videoinstallatie heb ik 3 levensgrote papieren figuren gemaakt. De figuren beelden het verleden, het heden en de toekomst uit. Elk met een geschilderd portret van waaruit de papieren figuren nu uitvouwen en tevoorschijn komen: om zo een geschiedenis te vertellen over blackness, het image van een donkere huid.
