My luggage is a little heavier than when I left home. I am still in shock and awe of my day in Baton Rouge yesterday. First year as a Master's lifter, and first time going 6/6 on the big stage! It ended with a sweep of the silver podium and my best total to date. My goal for this meet was to qualify for Master's World Championships. Period. I told Nik going in that medals would be a secondary priority. Boise Barbell had a great showing, and I am so thankful for my awesome teammates who ALL came home with some hardware. Team Captain Shana, a 2x Worlds Champion, 4 x Nationals Champion showing up for #ongweightlifting . With only 3 good weeks of train and a bad wrist injury. Bone spurs growing that causes lots of pain. Taking home a🥈place medal in the clean and jerk. Not her top performance but was able to secure a total for team❣️🏋🏻♂️ regardless her Masters Nationals record in the W45/76kg holds strong in the clean and jerk at 100kg. The rule of 3rds in any elite sport for any elite athlete. It’s time to rest up and get stronger for worlds in Finland. I am so grateful for the support and dedication to my team for over 7 years. USAMW Nationals 2024... Awful, but awesome! Awful because I bombed out on snatches! But Awesome because the experience is always great anyway! The podium pic is gold for Clean & Jerk for W55 87 kg. Honored to be with all the awesome women in this session. My lifting bestie @djjennyj was SO MUCH FUN to hang and room with and I'm glad I stayed for her session later and post-meet dinner. The event was so well done and my thoughts are with the Cohens and the loss of Mr. Howard Cohen yesterday; such a fine man and family who have done so much for Masters Weightlifting. As for my prep and training, it went SO WELL! Especially these past few weeks. Snatches to 57 kg etc... Yesterday I did a 52 kg snatch as my last warm up lift for confidence - and it was flawless! But couldn't repeat on the platform. Why, I don't know. But there's always next time. We put ourselves through the grinder to have experiences, and this was one. I love what I learn from all of it. Meet Judy Glenney – The Woman Behind Women’s Weightlifting Judy’s efforts on and off the platform were starting to make waves in the weightlifting community. Bill Clark, a pioneer in strength sports, held the first female competition in 1976 in Columbia, Missouri. “There were only a handful of us,” Judy recalls. It was the starting point for accelerated growth in women’s weightlifting. Five years later, the first official National Women’s Championship was held by USA Weightlifting in Waterloo, Iowa. It was Judy, along with magazine owner Mabel Rader and former USA Weightlifting President Murray Levin, who spearheaded the campaign for women to compete. Another master woman in history- Barbara Boyer- Inducted into IMWA hall of fame in 2009, her Records stood until 2015. Her true passion began at the age of 58 when she began training with her coach/dear friend Jackie Brown at Northern Power WLC in St. Albans, Vt. She won every competition she entered with 22 Best Lifter awards, 5 World Masters, 3 World Masters Games, 5 Pan-American and 8 National Masters Championships along with establishing multiple world/pan-american/national/state/local records along the way. We are looking for a few good men and women to volunteer as Technical Officials for the USA Masters Weightlifting Nationals event. If you are a local, National or International TO, OR if you are intersted in taking a short test to become one, we would love to have your help at this event and future USA Masters Weightlifting Events. As a USAMW TO, enjoy access to our world famous hospitality room featuring local cuisine for breakfast and lunch as well as snacks, COFFEE and drinks. Technical officials who commit to 3 or more sessions will receive a new collectible enamel pin, unique to each USAMW event - and available only to USAMW TO's. TO's who commit to 8 or more sessions over the 5 days will also get this insulated TO cup. The official attire for Technical Officials is blue / black dress slacks (or skirt for women) and a white shirt OR the USAMW TO shirt. The standard IWF TO uniform (blue suit) may also be worn. Technical Officials play a vital role in keeping these competitions going and it is a great way to give back to the sport that we all love. Lots of great progress earlier today with 3 power cleans from the hang for 3 followed by 3 push presses for 45kg for 3 sets. I feel I am in the groove prior to stopping the Olympic lifts. Then, I did overhead squats for 4 sets at 30kg followed by snatch deadlifts at 55kg for 3 triples. I ended with the front squat machine at 160 pounds(72.7kg) for 4 sets for 6 reps plus tons of accessory work that followed!!! Great first day training back since January 17th!!! I felt strong and ready for more. It makes sense to build gradually!!! I did snatches from the hang up to 35kg, snatch pulls to 55kg, clean deadlifts up to 60kg , GHD up with a 10kg plate, jumps , core , some @newagephysicaltherapy in between and then returned to do leg presses for 320 pounds for multiple reps and sets. Now I am relaxing in the sauna!!! Great day to continue my journey and road to @usamasterswl at Baton Rouge Louisiana the second week in April!!! I am GOING all the way!! I’m 2 weeks back in after taking a few months off after the last meet in November. Numbers aren’t too bad, considering the break. I’ve been enjoying training a bit more, too - I think the break was good! Anyhow, next meet is early May, for the Florida State Championship meet in Live Oak.
