The Underworld is filled with many, many places to explore and discover. Some say this world is not meant for us to meet while alive. Others say we're not really exploring THE underworld, but OUR underworld. I just believe what I know, my experience and acknowledge no one ever will have the absolute answer to this. But, if I find comfort in the wilderness, if I feel safer in a subway underground, if I find beauty and mystery in caves, wouldn't be the underworld a safe place for me? I'm just theorizing. As always, you want to explore the unknown as safer as possible, and having a guide in the Underworld is your best bet. When I started The Architect of Hades, it was Hades who expressed I should explore creating renders of my visions from the Underworld. There's more drawings than renders, and more than just these photos... I know! It's a detailed process. At that moment I didn't question myself if I should or should not, I just tried it and it felt right. I want to return there. To this day, it still feels right, and beautiful. All my images are created by me, from my own visions and experiences. They require time, patience and even... A lot of shadow work. Each render has a story, from Hades and me. Each one is tied to a part of my life. My last post was so reassuring for all of you, so I thought about doing some more and got inspired by some conversations with Hades from different points in my journey. It's easy to think that we'll face rejection or judgment by our deities if we're not "perfect" (and you know what I mean by that), or if we don't follow a strict code of conduct. Please remember that they do expect some things from us, but they're personal and greatly depend on and vary on the situation and living circumstances. What does that look like? I'll take me as an example. I know that Hades expects me to show up when I feel depressed or inadequate in my work with him and to not isolate and dig a pit of misery. Something hard because I was raised as an ✨independent woman✨, and "independent women" solve their own issues. Does this mean that if I don't show up or just connect with him when I feel bad I am failing? No. But if I keep this in mind and each time I actively try to understand myself, why I act in this way, and why I keep choosing this end I'll eventually have the courage to take a different decision and break the pattern, and that's when I grow. But this takes time... Gosh I wish it was that easy, at least for me. You see what I mean? I once worked at a subway company in project management as an architect. I didn't love the job at all, but there was one thing I always adored... Traveling at the head of the train. Sometimes I was able to stay there, and there's something beautiful about the repetitive white lights, the darkness, cold, and silence of that cabin that makes me nostalgic today. It was almost like all your fears, doubts, imperfections and worries disappeared during that time. It was like a soft dream. Darkness has this thing about it, of course, there are always 2 sides of the coin, but let's focus on this side for now. There's a reason why I love trains and caves, they kind of stop time. Down there you don't know what time it is, you see thousands of walking stories that move in seconds and they vanish as quickly as you see them. You become an observer of life where you don't find time to judge, just to be. And the darkness that lies there, the loneliness, and silence is something that makes me feel safe. Train stations teach you about the highs and lows, about how everything is always moving even when you cannot see or hear the train moving through other stations, about the many threads and stories that are going on at the same time, and how life can be so different for everyone yet... we share the same station. I always felt 10 times safer underground than on the streets. And, now that I think about it... My modern harbor for Charon would be a train station. Let's start talking about altars and we'll begin with Lord Hades! Before we start, you must remember that this is *not* a definite guide to creating an altar for Lord Hades, and we're not touching on themes directly related to what you can find in an altar. We're only talking about style, concept, and design. And feel free to drop any Qs, ideas, or views on these proposals! We can interact or create multiple types of altars in different ways, from physical to digital ones, and you can have discreet altars and on-display ones. Something I want to share with you about discreet or small altars is that they don't necessarily have to be located somewhere. You can carry it with you as jewelry pieces, seemingly unrelated objects, greenery, or decorative objects. A ring or a bracelet counts, remember that your body can be the temple and altar as well. For the On-display altar, I used a general sketch but adapted this to your own space. Considering the chthonic nature of Hades, I'd suggest that you locate it either close to the floor, or in the backyard (if possible), if not, over a table will do just fine. At the beginning, it's super easy to get tangled between wanting it to be super aesthetic and the objects you don't have. I also want you to know that it's totally okay to start small (or to keep it simple), remember that not always more is better, but if that's what you prefer go for it! The most important part of this space is that you make it yours, that you feel connected with it, and remember, your Gods don't live there, this is just a bridge. ✒️ How do you record your experiences, discoveries and hypothesis? These past few days I've been re reading my journals of The Architect of Hades, and it feels like reading the stories and ideas of an old friend. There's magick in looking at the past, at remembering the visions one had about the future. She had good ideas, ones I forgot after a while. I know she thought those ideas were kind of "impossible" at that stage in her journey, but she wrote them in a list called "Cool things for the future", and it's cool to see that my current ideas align with things she thought at that point. One can also find great inspiration by reading old entries, and even have big realizations, find links where you thought there was no evident blend. ✒️ I like to see my journals as old scriptures that hold valuable wisdom. ✒️ Like a gateway to a fascinating world full of limitless opportunities. ✒️ Like hidden jewels of the Underworld. But, to experience this... I need to write down my ideas, my thoughts and the most crazy blends and hypothesis I can think of, today. I've been working with Persephone on this service for a while. I wanted to offer something special for February considering it's the ✨love✨ month, but I wished for it to be about self-love and independence. We start this new approach with Erebus. Exploring unexpected blendings is my biggest curiosity. Today I pose a question: how might the Greek gods be represented through architectural or design styles and how does that perspective influence their worship? 🔳Erebus is the personification of darkness and another name for the realm of Hades, it's also the foggy darkness that surrounds the Underworld and the first stop of souls in their journey. Son of chaos and husband of Nyx. Many styles come to mind for Erebus, but the one that sticks the most to me is Brutalism, a movement born after WW2 aimed to solve problems. Its philosophy is based on straightforward, massive, angled, and clean structures that reject ornaments or details, no more than the structure's exposed raw materials and parts. This represents honesty and functionality. ⁉️And how can we visualize this in deity work or the practice in general? 💀Sometimes darkness and truth are not something we like but need. 💀To be bold in actions and decisions. 💀And, in some cases, the function is more important than the shape of anything we possess or perform. I've never talked about my personal journeys, my shadow work, or astral travels (beyond my underworld renders) in my profile. So, this feels extremely vulnerable for me. But, I could not find another way to explain this concept without a real example. Love is something I've longed for all my life, it has been this feeling of "something is missing, always", it went beyond everything, so, it was more than natural to hold on to this when I found out. It felt like I finally had completed the puzzle, but it was also destroying me. Having access to an immense space of resources, where anything is possible is amazing; the danger lies in developing rejection for your current life. As you learn to harness the power to travel and as you discover all the things you can do and transform your life with, you'll inevitably crash with this feeling. The biggest issue I've encountered is fear. 🌹Fear of not seeing anything. 🌹Fear of not reaching the Underworld. 🌹Fear of just imagining everything, even my deities chat. In further posts, I'll give you some tips on how to ease these fears, but right now what I want you to remember and keep in mind is that... Fear is a natural response. It's a human response. Your fear is not an illusion, it's real, and you're feeling it. Acknowledge it, don't fight it by saying you should not feel it. Everybody feels fear to some degree, even the most badass person you see around SM. And it normally comes from the unknown, from something you don't have experience with; and, as long as it's not spending the night alone in the forest fighting for your life, you can handle it. 🌹The first step for me was to recognize I was afraid, and I still am sometimes. 🌹The second one was to understand that a learning process involves trial and error and experimenting is a BIG part of it. (See slide #4) 🌹The third one was to take slow and small actions, to expand beyond the comfort zone one step at a time. (See slide #5) Just remember, just because it takes you longer to achieve it doesn't mean you're not doing it, it just means there's a different path for you and it's your mission to discover your unique path ahead. 🌹 This week I had a reading with Lady Hecate, she comes seasonally, only when she's needed. 2 cards came up during the reading: the Tower and the 6 of swords. I've seen a lot of tower moments in everyone's life lately, things that have been brewing for 2 or 3 months now, and they just collapse in a second. The tower comes into our lives to show us where things were not built in a correct way, you see, this card talks deeply to me as an architect. When we design a building there are many, many factors to consider to make sure it lives for a long time, you can have the most beautiful design, the most amazing concept and you can sell it pretty well in front of everybody... 🏗️ But, if the structure is weak, it'll collapse. Normally, the structure is all the things you cannot see. If you suffered from a recent tower moment, please, don't blame yourself, don't think that there's something wrong with you; and, even if you made mistakes, you were not aware of them at the moment. We're just humans, we do the best that we can with the best that we know. As long as you make your best effort to be a good human being and to be authentic, you're doing fine. 🛶 Now, the 6 of swords is my Charon card. This talks about leaving behind things that you cannot come back to ever again, it talks about transcending to a new existence and horizon, a very different reality, one where you'll not be the same. As we approach the end of the year we could start to think more about the things we achieved during the past months and the ones we didn't do. The stress creeps in, the anxiety and the thoughts of not being good enough to be able to schedule your days and activities to be able to fulfill those goals. I want you to remember that, first, you're more than enough, and second, it's never too late to start something new, or to retake that project you left unfinished in July and ignored because of some fears back then. You don't need to set goals for the full year in December and commit to them in January, you can start today and in 30 days you'll get results, you'll have learned something new or you'll break some fears. If you didn't achieve most of our goals this year, it's okay. I'm sure most of us didn't either. You're not less for that. One of Hades' possessions is the "Helm of Darkness" or "Cap of invisibility". If you ever are in need of some extra protection, you could consecrate a hat, a hoodie, a cap, or even a scarf with the properties of invisibility. Some practitioners like to veil in their practice, as a devotion or with other motives, I only veil on 2 occasions: 1. For deity channelings because it helps me focus. 2. With a scarf that I've consecrated with these properties when I'm out of home and wish to keep a low-key presence. Which, to be honest, is hilarious because nobody around here uses a scarf in their head, but hey, it works for me! 😂 You could also create a protection oil with sacred herbs to Hades and other protective plants and anoint your hair with it if you can't use any of the options above. I've found that this extra layer of protection, besides other ones I use, helps me keep spirits at bay as well, not only because it's a shield, but because spirits take a step back when you're infused by Hades' energy. Sometimes, if I'm being extra "bothered" by any spirit, I'd just say that I work with the God of the Dead, and they'll just leave. What do you think about this? Ancient practices are incredibly interesting, all the way from their cultural context to the procedures. Let's talk about how Necr*mancy was made back in ancient Greece. Some authors explain that this was not the main focus of the ancients and most of the information provided comes from the texts and mythology. Greeks rejected this topic and didn't even call Hades by his name for fear of conjuring an earlier d3ath. But some places are said to be old necr*mantic sites and rituals. So, you may ask why the ancients would practice necr*mancy? Some motives were: to curse someone with the restless d3ad, for the need for information involving the life of the one that pass3d away, and to look for remedy in the dissatisfaction of the dead (like proper burial). Other reasons involved the concept of understanding the past to be able to build a better future as the d3ad were able to provide the wisdom of their own life and d3ath, and because the Underworld was the womb of those that'd incarnate. Some say the d3ad also held some kind of knowledge regarding the fertile ground. So, keeping this in mind, the living and d3ad should have a common ground to discuss these topics. Many terms refer to necr*mancy places and the practitioner during the centuries, but we need to briefly differentiate between katabasis and necr*mancy. ♦️ Katabasis means the descent of the living to the realm of Hades. ♦️ Necr*mancy means communication with the d3ad. Now, where were these procedures evocated? Nekuomanteion is the name of these places, first mentioned in the Odyssey as the oracle of the d3ad. There're many types of chthonic places in our world that are related to this (look for the Oracles of the D3ad post). Like other oracles like Delphi, these sites would also have their rituals, there are 3 types: (1) basic evocation as in the Odyssey, (2) scrying with body-medium resources from the Greek magical papyri, and (3) reanimation. 🚧Book resources in the comment section. Daily routines depend a lot on your schedule, energy levels, and lifestyle in general. And before we start, don't ever dare make yourself feel bad if you cannot fulfill your established daily routine, maybe you just need to adjust it. Some daily (or weekly, or monthly) routines ideas you can try are: 🏺 Recite hymns. 🏺 Burn incense. 🏺 Offer an early morning or late evening offering. 🏺 Going for a walk. 🏺 Reading about your deity. 🏺 Cleaning their altar. 🏺 Doing something that makes you feel good. 🏺 Journaling. Personally, I have a very "displaced schedule" with Hades because of the nature of my job as it drains my energy levels a lot! A sign from a deity is something that has been established between you and them. In our modern world is super easy to treat everything as a sign, and what I mean by that is everything you find in an algorithm, for example. If you start to see a lot of content about a deity, it's because you're interacting with it or you are just watching it (no need to like it). So, no, it could possibly not be a sign from them. Of course, there're exceptions to the rule! But here is where your intuition comes to play, is this something random? Is this something you haven't written or talked about near a phone? The sign will have a feeling of a focal point, it's something that pops in the middle of nowhere, and it's something that makes you think a lot about it; this is if you don't have an established method of communication with a deity. Now, when you contact a deity, you'll have a chance to ask them for a sign that will represent their energy whenever they're around or want to talk to you. They could choose it, or you could propose them. In my case, Hades shows me skulls whenever he wants to make himself known to me or he wants to call out for my attention. And some will think: oh, so generic. 😂 Of course, deities will use symbols they resonate with. What I want you to take from this is that you're the only one who can determine if something is a sign, if someone else doesn't agree with you is because... you guessed it, it's not for them. Repetition is key, randomness is key, and brain-exploding scenarios are also a good hint. And you can also ask them to show you a very specific something! While it is true that deity practices are intimate and personal between the individual and their God, it's very important to know that deities are not objects you can just conjure or call upon whenever you want. I think it's kind of disrespectful to just call for a deity to ask for a favor or to channel a message from them without any procedure or exchange. There's a hierarchy, and there's respect. A deity owes you nothing. One of the things I've learned from Hades is that there're procedures, there's a time for everything and you cannot rush the process as much as you wish. Now, what about "formal rituals", what do I mean by that? Imagine that you have invited the CEO of a huge company (that you absolutely adore) to your home to ask him some questions and advice for your own life, let's say this CEO accepts your invitation, what would you do? Do you have food or sweets for them? Are you sure they'll at least like them? Is your home clean? Does it smell good? Did you take a shower? Are your clothes clean? They're your guest, you are a host, are you making sure your guest is comfortable? And now I ask, are you caring about creating a relationship with them or do you only want them to answer your questions? There's always an exchange. Deities could and will definitely help you in moments of need without expecting anything from you, but that also happens when there's a bond, trust, and respect. Be respectful with your deities, and treat them well and in a selfless way. If you just wish to worship them, that's okay as well. In my practice with Hades, I always make sure to give an offering (if I want to ask for something or just bc I want to), I recite his orphic hymn, I clean my space before a reading, I clean myself, I burn incense, I take every step as a sacred journey. I show ultimate respect to him in ritual space and readings, and I also show immense love and friendly chat when I talk to him. We'll start to explore the different faces of Hades, and these also are referred to his aspects as God. God of the hidden wealth of the Earth. Hades not only rules over the dead and the Underworld, but also over the hidden riches, the ground that nurtures the seed and the womb. Metals, crystals, gold, silver, fertile soil, these all are found in the depth of the Earth. We could also say that these represent all the talents, opportunities, and possibilities that lie inside of us. Wealth is not only about money, it's about the possibilities that lie in ideas and talents; those are the ones that bring perdurable and grounded financial resources. Are you having struggles when it's time to think about offerings to Hades? Its procedure? How to dispose them after a while? So, first. Think about offerings as gifts, a way to honor your deities and say "hey, I saw this and it reminded me of you", or "I know you like coffee, I'll give it to you in your altar everyday and we'll chat while it brews". Offerings and the space to create and give them are one of the most personal and intimate moments you can have with your Deity. I've already talked about what offerings you can give Hades (check past posts), but what about the other questions? I'll give you easy answers to them and know you can change the procedure at will. 💀 How to "offer"? Take the offering in your hands and say (aloud or in your mind) "this is an offering for X, may you like and enjoy it", that's what I say, then you can express for how long it'll remain in the altar, other times Hades will decide how much time it gets to be in the altar. 🤣 💀 Can I eat them afterwards? Yes, if they're not damaged, rotten or toxic. Just tell him you'll eat it after it's finished being an offering, no food should go to waste. I don't drink the liquids, just solids. 💀 Can I give small pieces? YES! 💀 Should I bury them? In which ways do you protect yourself spiritually? In more cases than you may know, you allow your energy to flow freely from one place to another, and that "may be" the reason of why you feel depleted most of the time (ask your doctor as well!). So, we can talk A LOT of things about this topic, but today I want you to know that if you like to watch haunting videos on YouTube, you should protect yourself 10 times out of 10. Why? Spirits and entities can attach to recordings, that's why you may feel discomfort after binge watching ghost hunters on YouTube. Entities feed from your fear, so, if you know you're easy prey of feeling scared after watching them, just don't. And even if you don't feel scared about them, put some protection before watching them as well, it could linger in your house. So, how to do it? Put your hand in front of the device you're gonna use and visualize a barrier (I use a sigil form) and say something like this: no entity or spirit is allowed to cross this portal, they're not allowed to attach to me, to any member of my home or to my house, they'll stay were in it's origin and won't cross this barrier. One of the things I've learned with Hades is that we're deserving of so much more, and I'm not only talking about money, I'm talking about relationships, health, wealth, emotions, gifts... It's true that Hades is also the God of the riches if the Earth, but don't forget that those riches are not limited to crystals and minersls, it's also about the fertile dark ground were the harvest goddesses bury their seeds. This is what I'd tell little me 2 years ago: 1. You don't need to pray everyday, you just need to be consistent, and that can look like 1 prayer a week as well. 2. What you're feeling is correct. Maybe, maybe a little bit decalibrated if you're complete beginner, but your intuition is ALWAYS right. You'll see with time. 3. Honor your body and energy, knowing how your body communicates with you will teach you how to tune with others spirits and how they feel. 4. Hades, Gods and guides don't feel guilt, anger, resentment or jealousy. 5. You don't need to offer him alcohol, offer what's accesible to you, even water can be a great offering. 6. Relationships take time, trust, and conversation. Give it time. 7. Relationships with Gods are not always meant to be forever, some steps in seasons and others in certain moments of your life. 8. Take EVERYTHING like a pinch of salt. The majority of things you read online are not true. 9. Read about Greek society, politics, lifestyle, you understand the faith by understanding their life, that's a good foundation to start with. 10. You don't need to share your practice online, you don't need to turn your practice into a business. Make sure it is first YOURS. 11. JOURNAL EVERYTHING. Yeah, some things will be missed... 😅 12. You can put boundaries with your deities. 13. Remember that your spiritually is part of your life, you can talk with your deities on the subway. I def do it! 14. It's okay is you feel like you're deceiving everyone, or like you're manipulating everybody, I felt the same way. Breath and treat them as intrusive thoughts. 15. There's nothing to be afraid of, your life won't be ruined or something bad will happen. It won't. 16. Knowing, learning and understanding are different things. You could be aware of something and still don't understand it fully. This is what I realized with 2 days of hiking... Yeah, short amount of time, but I realized so many things in 2 days than in a life of self development. Here are 10 things I understood with hiking, or, the rules of the mountains: ⛰️ Not because you cannot see it, it doesn't mean it's not there. Applies to predat0rs, spirits and guides. ⛰️ Ask for permission, enter with respect, leave an offering and good wishes, vocalize your intentions and give a gift. ⛰️ Watch your feet, the next step is more important than the rest of the path, you could fall in a pretty bad way. No rush in the path. ⛰️ If you're injured or harmed, stop. You cannot keep going with an injure. ⛰️ Always expect the best but be prepared for the worst. ⛰️ Your food, your resource, eat and drink water wisely. ⛰️ Team player is always better than lone wolf. Unexperienced wolves get lost in the forest. ⛰️ Know your limits. ⛰️ Approach with caution and curiosity. ⛰️ Ask and you'll be provided. The spirits of the ghost cable car station were shy, very shy... And scared. Exploring is fun, adventure is fun, but how many times do we stop and think that the world doesn't belong to us (contrary to the common idea). Architectonically talking, abandoned places are frozen in time, are a living museum of memories. They are a portal to other dimensions and realities. I consider abandoned locations to be chthonic as well. They're dangerous, secretive, isolated. You need to have courage to go there and face uncertainty. Like the underworld. But not everything about them are scary, they are a different kind of beauty, and as art, is subjective to the eye. I didn't feel called to do a poker card reading for this place as it's spirits were more scared than curious. This is gonna be an ✨interior design✨ style of post, (is Brithney testing out something? Ssshhh!!) 😂 So, what we could say makes a space chthonic in its purest and rawest form? These are some characteristics: 🏺 Rock finishes, maybe wallpapers 🏺 Mini terrariums. 🏺 Mini waterfalls, which could be physical or in the form of ambiance music. 🏺 Dark hues palette. 🏺 Statues, in 3D or pictures. 🏺 Dead flowers, low maintenance. 🏺 Dim lights, or rice lights. 🏺 Fake candles, because safety is first. 🏺 Bookshelves, yeah, hardcover. 🏺 Fractal mirrors, because why not. 🏺 Dark wood, marble, blackboard stone. This is something my intuition always told me, and I always ignored it until I could not do it anymore. Yes, I used to treat my craft and spirituality like a joke in front of other people. What are you talking about?! How can you do that? To be approved by them, by the people I loved. My practice felt hard, and complex for others to understand, so I would create a joke around it to make it digestible for others. The only thing I gained from it was to allow others to make fun of my craft, visions, past lives, and conversations with Hades. "...yeah! that's why your house was burned to the ground! hahaha" 😔 It's embarrassing to admit this, but I want others to ask themselves if they're watering down themselves as well for the approval of other people. ♦ Do you feel you owe them something? ♦ Do you feel the need to excuse yourself or explain yourself too much? ♦ Do you feel the need to tell EVERYTHING about your practice to others? And the most important thing... To whom are you telling these experiences?
