Then we made a quick stop at St. John’s Basilica. Next we saw the Temple of Artemis, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Only one pillar remains, but the view of Isa Bey Mosque and Ayasuluk Castle behind it make it well worth a stop. Then we had the most delicious Turkish lunch. Afterwards, we watched a rug making demonstration. The kids got to unravel silk worm cocoons and practice weaving a rug. Then they served us Turkish coffee while trying to sell us rugs. 🥴🤣😅 Nic and I didn’t love that part, but the kids had the best time running around on all the beautiful rugs. From there we went to a Hammam for a Turkish bath. What a surreal moment to look around the beautiful Turkish bath and see Nic and my three kids covered in bubbles getting massaged. I actually cried afterward because it was such a special experience that we got to share together. We ended our tour at Kusadasi castle. We wandered around the castle, grabbed some ice cream then swam at the beach. Als je bij Side bent is de waterval bezoeken bij Manavgat best leuk om te doen. Je moet hier wel entree betalen en die was rond de 3 euro, het stelt niet heel veel voor. Maar je kan er een terrasje pakken en wat winkeltjes bekijken. Maar ga er maar niet vanuit dat je hier een halve dag vol houdt. Een uur of 1,5 is meer dan genoeg 😅. Gulhane Park is full of birds and kitty cats, There's enormous cranes with their nests high above and even more surprising- there's parrots. 🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜 Dexter spotted a lime green one and said "mum, I'm pretty sure I saw a parrot but I'm confused." Half an hour later we were having lunch at @kandilkafe when I spotted one too! After some research we found out that the parrots were thought to have arrived in the early 90s, they are not native to the area or migratory. One theory is that they were refugees of the gulf war and they fled to safety to Turkey. Istanbul Aquarium. Amazon Rain Forest. This was probably the coolest part. All indoors but super humid and moist, lots of rain, like, real rain. To the point we had to take out our umbrellas at the end 😅
Thank you for traveling with me to Berlin with the last many many posts. Next destination: Istanbul. We were there at the end November. Traveled with 2 young kids, so some places you’ll see are catered to that travelers group. Like, for example, this aquarium. Amazing place. Probably one of the best we’ve been to (and we’ve visited aquariums in the US, Japan and Korea). However, with that being said, if you are traveling without kids and it’s not a rainy day, no need to go there.
Our next cruise stop was Kusadasi. From there we went to Ephesus, which was a highlight of the trip for me. Walking down the street where chariots rode, seeing the Library of Celsus come into view, watching the kids pretend to be gladiators and imagining what life was like in the city was incredible. The first photo is taken at Herakles Door, which is made up of two columns. Kusadasi was our favorite stop of the cruise! We booked a private tour with samyelitravelturkey and had the best day with our tour guide Füsun. We went to Ephesus first, which in itself was amazing! Then we made a quick stop at St. John’s Basilica. Next we saw the Temple of Artemis, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Only one pillar remains, but the view of Isa Bey Mosque and Ayasuluk Castle behind it make it well worth a stop. Then we had the most delicious Turkish lunch. Afterwards, we watched a rug making demonstration. The kids got to unravel silk worm cocoons and practice weaving a rug. Then they served us Turkish coffee while trying to sell us rugs. 🥴🤣😅 Nic and I didn’t love that part, but the kids had the best time running around on all the beautiful rugs. From there we went to a Hammam for a Turkish bath. What a surreal moment to look around the beautiful Turkish bath and see Nic and my three kids covered in bubbles getting massaged. I actually cried afterward because it was such a special experience that we got to share together. We ended our tour at Kusadasi castle. We wandered around the castle, grabbed some ice cream then swam at the beach.
