Peperomia rotundifolia (also known as Trailing Jade or Creeping Buttons) 🌿 This member of the Piperaceae family is native to South and Central America, where it creeps along the forest floor, on trees or rocks. The Trailing Jade grows like a vine or like an herb due to its environment. In the wild, the small plant is used to high humidity, moist soil and warm temperatures. As it is a forest floor plant, the plant tolerates low light conditions. Although it looks small, when it matures (depending on the conditions - after ~2 years), its stems can reach up to 40 cm in length! Fun fact - P.rotundifolia could be used in medicine (for stomach problems) and for food. Please do not try it out🫣 🌿 It doesn't like harsh or direct light and prefers moderate to low light. Soil should be moist, most importantly - do not overwater! It can handle drying out, so in doubt, leave it be for a few days. P.rotundifolia doesn't like cold temperatures, which is understandable, it is still a tropical plant. I also found out that it prefers high humidity and can be used as a terrarium plant. I grow the plant at room conditions with 40-50%, which is also completely fine. 🌿 At first, I wasn't excited about this plant. In July last year, when I bought it, it looked absolutely not impressive. I bought it just because it was cheap and the bigger versions looked ... not bad. But since in my care the Trailing Jade really surprised me! It is really low maintenance (I forget about it from time to time😵💫). It stands near my small greenhouse (doesn't get a lot of light) and gets watered only when completely dry. And it loves it! It is slowly transforming in a really nice trailing plant and I can't wait for it to get bigger. Went to Mahoney’s nursery in Chelmsford today…..I absolutely love being in greenhouses, I love the noise of the fans, the light even the heat it all just makes me feel sooo happy, and the fact there is plants in them does help too 😂😉. This was the first visit to a Mahoneys for me and I really liked it they had sooo many cute hanging pitcher plants and I was tempted, but I decided to grab this super cute trailing jade that I’m going to hang in the tree outside beside my massive pitcher plant.
