It's been a whirlwind of a week, but very rewarding. I had my first in-person lecture and workshop since Liam was born, and I was reminded of how much I enjoy it. I thought it would take a little while to get my footing, but things went smoothly. These lectures are often the first time people hear about me or see my work, and I've always used that as motivation to put on an engaging and inspiring talk. I want the program coordinators, the members and the guests to be pleasantly surprised and to be glad that they came to a lecture by someone they didn't know. I feel immensely proud when I can achieve that. My focus for the next little while will be scheduling and writing more lectures. This dress was a labour of love — I’ve always wanted to make a fitted, somewhat extravagant evening dress and @frocktails.to gave me the opportunity! I envisioned something that had a full 1950’s style skirt with a modern fabric. Stay tuned for a “making-of” reel. 🥰🧵💃 Pattern: McCall’s M7719 with pleated skirt and off-shoulder bodice options Mods: I originally wanted to go with the scoop neck bodice option (with back straps) - but after making a toile it just didn’t fit my chest right, even after making some modifications. The off-shoulder option actually fit great with minimal mods! I shortened the waistband piece by 2 inches and lengthened the skirt by 6 inches. Fabric: Brocade Jacquard Lame Fabrics in Shades of Gold (Nylon + Lurex) and taffeta lining fabric in black both from @gkfashionfabrics. This fabric was interesting to work with — it has structure, but is also very delicate and prone to fraying at the seams.
