Ingrid affirms that for her, what counted the most in her journey was the people she met, that would determine her path. During her expat journey made of 30 years, 9 countries and 11 moves, she met a LOT OF PEOPLE! In every country she would start either a new creative course or volunteering for a cause. “Volunteering is really important because it allows you to discover and fulfil your interests. It’s also a good way for trying new things and meet new people, without boundaries” she says. Ingrid suggests trying to find different people, causes and communities to mingle with, these are great opportunities to start something new with like minded people or shared interests. When she was living in Vietnam, she met a Belgian ceramic artist and they shared artistic aesthetic. They partnered with a local manufacturer and started a small collection of ceramics. After 7 years they sold a flourishing business. I dedicate them from the perspective that I am my own greatest true love. I also listen to love songs as if they were directed at me *from* my desires, my innermost yearnings that have lain fallow, asking me desperately to pay attention, to requite their love. Try it sometime! It’s a really beautifully healing practice. For several years now I’ve been actively cultivating regulating my nervous system in all the ways: with the music and films I consume, the food I eat, and how I focus my attention in general. Designed and built by the Uruguayan artist Gonzalo Fonseca, the tower is one of twenty-one sculptures that comprise the Ruta de la Amistad, a cultural project commissioned by Pedro Ramirez Vazquez and Matthias Goeritz for the 1968 Olympics in México.” The title of the sculpture derives from its location at the crosswinds of the nearby volcanoes, Xitle and Ajusco. I’m excited to share that tomorrow I’m speaking on a panel at ‘House of Honey’ design studio featuring five pioneering women in design. To be clear, I’m an artist and I do not identify as a designer, though I recognize that both my lighting sculpture series, ‘Connect’ and ‘Lucienne’, live at the intersection of art and design. Design tends to live in the territory of form and function, whereas art tends to live in the territory of form and concept. What distinguishes my work from design is it’s conceptual underpinnings – both series address the subject of agency. ‘Connect’ is about collective agency and ‘Lucienne’ is about personal agency and both are about locating our power despite external and internal oppressions. One of the most dangerous oppressive mechanisms is the belief that we are powerless in the face of oppression, be it collective or personal, external or internal. Both my lighting sculpture series’ aim to remind myself and others of my/our/their power to enact change, be it personal or collective. Every moment is an opportunity for change. Now. And now. And now. I think a lot about the idea that whatever you are not changing, you are choosing. Find even the smallest place where you have power. We are facing such troubling, overwhelming times and with cultivating resilience and equipping ourselves to navigate this moment and the future, two things are remarkably important to remember as we move forward — 1) another world is possible & 2) however grim the circumstances, we have the collective and personal power to not only imagine what that world can look like but most importantly to bring that world to be. 27/04/2024 hoje eu nasci de novo! Sofri um acidente automobilístico de colisão frontal. Eu na ocasião estava no banco esquerdo do passageiro. Desde 2007 quando sofri o primeiro acidente o tempo havia apagado as imagens aterrorizantes da cena de uma colisão frontal. Naquele momento, tudo o que você vê é a luz alta vindo com toda a intensidade em sua direção juntamente com o carro desgovernado, um motorista ébrio e irresponsável pronto a te eleger de um simpes passageiro de uma viagem legal, programada com antecedência para uma vítima quase que fatal. Hoje eu me dei conta mais uma vez de que, não somos merda nenhuma! A vida é tão frágil, vulnerável e passageira. Num piscar de olhos tudo pode mudar. Obrigado aos meus Pais na fé e a minha mãe maravilhosa por manter as orações em dia juntamente com as minhas.
