Lauren Mayberry - Secret Session in New York 🎤🎶 Lauren sent a new update via her mailing list, revealing she did a session at the Power Station Studios in New York at the end of March 🗽 Apparently, it's not about her solo project, but she described it as "a really illuminating, fun afternoon" 👀 CHVRCHES fans will remember this venue, as the band performed an acoustic set in 2018, playing "Get Out", "Never Say Die", "The Mother We Share", and a cover of "XO" by Beyoncé. Lauren herself recalled their time in those studios, linking the "XO" clip and said, "Cover is decent; no-fringe era is not; let’s just delete all that imagery from the internet". Sometimes when I can't sleep, I check eBay. I was thankful when I found these at 7am on a Saturday morning. I have only ever saw the first one up for sale, but it was actually numbered/signed by @mckelvie and went for A LOT. I didn't even try for it. I was gutted. But hey, sometimes we get lucky! Throwback to my all time favourite @chvrches Bones era🤗❌. The songs, the feeling, just everything makes me so nostalgic and emotional every time. Those two pictures speak for themselves in my opinion. Our little page had 0 followers and we had no idea it would become the most followed active CHVRCHES fan page on Instagram. We later added Facebook and Threads and, as of today, we’ve reached 4,300+ cumulative followers over 4 different platforms. During these 2 years, we've met awesome people, new friends, and lots of love and support from all over the world. Lauren Mayberry, October 22th 2023, Milan 🇮🇹 Can't believe it's been already a month since this show! 😱🥀 The crowd was so loud that Lauren came back just after the last song to take photos and sign stuff to everyone! That was so unexpected and sweet ❤️ We got the chance to meet her again, we gave her some gifts and took these pics with her ✨ Just right before meeting her, we asked for the printed setlist and someone from the crew handed me three copies of it! I let another fan take one of them, and then I gave the other two to Peppe and our friend Matteo of CHVRCHES Italia who asked me... so I actually didn't really got a printed setlist at first, even if I got three in my hands 😅 Peppe was so sweet to ask Lauren's tour manager Chris for another one and he was so kind to bring it to us outside the venue - thank you both so much 🥺 So that's why my setlist isn't signed by Lauren! Lauren Mayberry, October 22th 2023, Milan 🇮🇹 After the very last CHVRCHES show of the Screen Violence era in Milan, I really hoped we could see the band live again soon with new music... well, new music actually arrived sooner than we all imagined and Lauren surprised us all with her new solo journey! I'm so glad I had the chance to attend her first solo show here in Italy, it was a magical night! The songs are are just amazing (I kinda lost my mind with Sorry Etc. 🤣)! The energy, the sassyness, the performance... everything was so great! ✨ We organized a couple of surprises for Lauren: the "Italy Loves You" signs, an Italian flag signed by the fans and we also gave her a printed copy of our project for her birthday 🥀❤️ The crowd was so loud that she came back just after the last song to take photos and sign stuff to everyone! 🎵 Lauren Mayberry 🗓️ October 22, 2023 🇮🇹 Circolo Magnolia, Segrate (Milan), Italy Just right after CHVRCHES wrapped their Screen Violence era, no one could have expected that Lauren Mayberry would have launched her solo career... and what a journey this has been already 🤯 Starting with the first tease, the tour announcement, hearing the first single "Are You Awake?", and finally having the chance to attend a show, her first solo show in Italy 🇮🇹 Her performance was amazing, and I couldn't expect less than that. Definitely too short, but it felt special to be among the very first people who heard these songs before their release. We surprised Lauren with our signs saying "ITALY LOVES YOU", and she felt our Italian love and warm from the start 🥀❤️ The crowd was so loud and still chanting after the show ended (some people were unaware that it was actually over 🤣), that she even had to come back right after to chat, sign stuff, and take pictures with everyone... but that's just how special she is 🥺✨ It was a very different experience to be at a show in Italy with actual fans, after seeing CHVRCHES opening for Coldplay in Milan, just a few months before. About that... She sang a cover of "Trouble" by Coldplay, and it was a beautiful throwback. We put so much effort into CHVRCHESPEDIA, and seeing people recognizing us, plus holding our flag in the barricade again, with Lauren smiling at us... that's always a special feeling ❤️ And to top it off, we had the unbelievable opportunity to interview her... 🤯🥺 You'll know more about that in the upcoming days, for now enjoy this first set of photos I took. Chvrches - The Bones of What You Believe 🏴 Clear Vinyl (2023) Very disappointed by this 10th anniversary edition : no additional material, cheap print and paper, the remastering is muffled and weak...$41 for a single vinyl (+ $9 taxes because it's sent from the US, strange for a Scottish band...), and the sleeves arrived ripped because of a bad packaging. That being said, this record is amazing, probably the best synth-pop record from the last 15-20 years. I’ve certainly come across the name CHVRCHES before, but I’m not actually sure if I’ve heard them. It’s odd that we seem to be going back to Olde Worlde spelling. I recently listened to PVRIS too. Power to the V, I guess. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: We Sink, Night Sky, Lungs I liked this album a lot. It reminds me of the more upbeat MGMT synth-pop songs, or maybe even the more modern Depeche Mode tracks. It definitely seems inspired by 80’s music, and that sits well with me. I will say that I’m glad that the Glaswegian accent is easier to understand when sang. It seems to sound like a whole different language when I’ve had conversations with Glaswegians before. Anyway, I digress.
