IT IS ABOUT OUR LORD! We forget so easily that when we go through seasons of life where we feel like we are just beat into the ground, that all of this happening to us and around is so Jesus can shape and mend us into who we are supposed to be and into who we are as a Child of God. That, in itself, is a blessing of its own. All of these terrible, awful seasons will always have a point of healing or a reward that we don’t deserve because our God is a loving, faithful God and we can’t even remember to thank Him for waking us up every morning. That doesn’t even touch the amazing things that will happen in these seasons! Babies will be born! People will get married! Lives will be saved! People will graduate college! This is something that used to never bother me but a few months ago I listened to Radical by David Platt (@plattdavid_) and he tells this story about a man who, no matter how much his salary increased, he capped his lifestyle at $20,000. The money he had leftover, he gave back. Whether it was to his community, to his local churches, to fund mission trips, or to charity… he gave every penny over $20,000 back. What an incredible, giving way to live. It’s really the way we’re supposed to live but somewhere along the way, we started to want more and more for ourselves. I used to never think about the amount of unnecessary stuff we all have and let’s be honest… I’m no stranger to some online shopping (I’m working on that), but the world has a serious greed problem. The problem is that everyone believes that all this money we have is ours, and it’s not. It’s God’s. Published: September 12, 2017 ———— Here’s the part thats going to kick me right out of my comfort zone and parade my dirty little secrets right out front with glaring spotlights… I’m going to give you a real glimpse of what childhood cancer looks like, through my eyes, through pictures. Say goodbye to the glamorous wigs I’ve tricked you all into thinking is real, the false eyelashes, and the drawn on eyebrows and take a look at what childhood cancer REALLY looks like. So, look at the blissfully happy pictures I upload when I look the way I want people to see me and think of me and remember that’s the real me, those moments are so real. But those moments have been fought for tooth and nail, everyday is another day to wake up and fight. 1 in 300 boys and 1 in 333 girls are affected by childhood cancer. 46 kids in the United States will be told they have childhood cancer today. 50,000 kids in the U.S. are fighting their fight from hospital beds. There are more than 300,000 cases diagnosed globally each year. 60% of kids suffer late term effects such as infertility, heart failure, secondary cancer, etc (for me right now, this means esophageal webbing and dysphasia but could mean more late term effects in the future). In the past 20 years, only THREE treatments have been developed and approved by the @FDA for pediatric use. Childhood cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease in children. Only 4% of the national cancer institute’s budget is used for pediatric cancer research funding. We are more than 4. One in five kids diagnosed with pediatric cancer won’t survive. But my God reminds me, “if you have you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain ‘move’ from here to there, and it will move. A look back to a blog from 2019: April 15th, is a date I'll never forget. Cancer was both a blessing and a curse to our family. It created a bond for the 4 of us that will forever be unbroken. It brought incredibly loving and special people into our lives to walk with us on this journey while Ansley was ill –and now with The Ansley Foundation. It forced us to spend time as a family that probably would have been spent doing other things separately if not for the thousands of hospital hours, commuting hours, Netflix hours, discussion hours and prayer hours. It has shaped the future of her sister who now works on the very PICU floor that Ansley spent her last months going to and from. Ashtyn’s career choice will make a difference in another child’s life like so many made in Ansleys. Most importantly, it led Ansley to deepen her walk with Christ and that led us to begin to strengthen our relationship with Him, which ultimately helped to prepare us for saying goodbye to part of our world. Being baptized at her feet in our home on April 15th, 2018 is a gift that I could never imagine and to have my Dad then follow me and get baptized as well was something I never thought I’d see. Seeing her mom and Grandpa baptized brought her to tears and was something I know she had prayed for and I had prayed about for some time. This year, in honor of Ansley's love for Easter, we're opening a page from her journal to share the magic she felt during this season. Join us in revisiting the memories and cherishing the holiday that brought her so much joy. ––––––––––––––––––––– April 15, 2017 Tomorrow is Easter & it's like Christmas Eve & I can't sleep!! Easter is one of my favorite holidays because I get to start my day at church & then spend the day surrounded by family, friends, & good food. I'm so blessed to be able to spend my Easter this way & I pray for those who aren't as lucky to have family to celebrate with but that they remember Christ paid it all for them!!! I pray someone finds Christ tomorrow & someone goes to church & it changes their lives like it has changed mine. "By His wounds, we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 ––––––––––––––––––––– Ansley's faith was paramount to her and she shared her walk with God with all who would listen. It was important to Ansley that everyone around her know Jesus like she did and accept Him into their lives. Incredibly, through her, seven people at her service gave their lives to Christ and became believers. If her story has touched your heart, consider sharing her message of faith. One of our favorite memories of Ansley was her high school graduation night. At the time, Ansley had a tumor in her shoulder she was receiving treatment for and her car was totaled after she was struck at an intersection a few days prior. She had already fought cancer 16 years but fought even harder to be just like her friends and have as normal a life as she could. Nothing could stop her from walking the field that night with a million-dollar smile on her face. After being handed her diploma, she found us in the stands and the cheering seemed to go on forever. She had achieved her goal – graduating with her class and being just like everyone else. It was a perfect night. If you have a memory with Ansley from this night, we'd love to see it! On International Childhood Cancer Day, we stand with courage, hope, and love for the young warriors and their families. Let us share Ansley's story, a powerful reminder that childhood cancer is not just one day; it's a year-round battle for families. Ansley's journey began at just 2 1/2 years old. It started with a lump on her neck that would lead to a 19-year battle with Neuroblastoma - a true rarity for this type of cancer. Her fight was relentless, as she managed to attend school, hang out with her friends, and live her life while simultaneously never missing a doctor appointment. We lost count, but a lot of Ansley's days were spent behind hospital walls getting poked for labs, dealing with the side effects of treatments, learning big medical words, getting scans, and so much more that no child should ever have to endeavor. Despite the lack of normalcy in her childhood, she always had a smile on her face and rarely complained. Throughout her life, she would relapse 4 times. Frequently, she was participating in clinical trials to try different treatment plans for Neuroblastoma that would consist of trying various combinations of chemo, different dosages of chemo, or even newer drugs to the field. In January 2017, Ansley tried one of those trials and that February, we almost lost her. She spent 3 weeks in ICU, mostly on the ventilator. Coming out of that time and eventually heading home, Ansley dove head first into her faith. The route of Ansley's relationships changed. The focus of her life changed. She wasn't scared to share Christ with anyone who walked past her. She was a true ray of light in the lives of the people around her. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month has come and gone. A month filled with fundraising, remembering, reflecting, and planning ahead. Gold bow sales kicked off the month, another delivery of Ansley Weighted Blankets to the hospital, a fundraising record car show event despite being rained out, a sweet birthday dinner in memory of Ansley hosted by her favorite @pizzashackco , and her being remembered in another beautiful wedding last weekend. Childhood cancer is the most awful thing, but surviving child loss is an unimaginable pain that lives within us forever. 1825 days. Your last days are forever locked in my mind like it was yesterday but a lifetime ago. It's reality but doesn't seem real. We're visiting your favorite place for a few days. We go away to get away but your loss travels with us and the reminders follow us daily. Today it was waking up to a Neuroblastoma treatment update on tv. I watch for and treasure all the signs you send letting me know you're still with me but today it hits harder. I seek comfort in your Bible and find hope in His word. Today's verse- "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 There's no preparing for life after child loss. Nothing about it is normal. The grief is different from other loss. Its endless and sits deep, deep within. It hits often. We never thought we'd be here. You rallied for 19+ years. Denial has its purpose. Five years without you. So much has changed. I know you know. You'd be beyond head over heels for Knox and Mila. They are perfection. Your friends keep in touch with us, volunteer and help us spread awareness and your Dad and I have guaranteed no one else will ever try to profit from your death selling cheap merch again. It was a gut punch so soon after losing you but it's not the attack that counts, it's what you do during and after. We've tried to turn our heartache and hurt into something good and honor your memory and God's promise that we will see you again. You'd be amazed at the impact you had on people and I hope you realized how special you were. We're very lucky to have so many people that truly loved you surrounding and supporting us. Your community has rallied and your Foundation continues to grow. It has helped endless families and helped fund critical research. Your weighted blankets are a huge hit and cover so many patients throughout CHOA, Emory Proton and elsewhere. Your fight mattered. Your life mattered. Wow Today was so special to me I got the opportunity to go to BOYCE L. ANSLEY SCHOOL @theansleyschool and speak to the 2nd & 3rd Grade Class for College & Career Week📚✨🙌🏽 BOYCE L. ANSLEY SCHOOL Is special to me because it is A tuition-free, private school for children of families who have experienced homelessness which is dear to me since 6 years ago I also experienced similar hardships It was so amazing to be able to inspire the youth of today and encourage them to go after their dreams as I'm still doing and to see all of their faces light up when we asked them what they wanted to be when they grew up 😁 Some said Actors, Doctors , Wrestlers, Nail Techs, YouTubers and Football and Soccer Players and of course Astronauts which at their age I was trying to go to the moon too 😂 So it was definitely refreshing to see rooms full of creatives and dream makers aspiring for a change in the norm 🙌🏽✨ It just goes to show representation for the children of today means alot 🤎✊🏾 Thank you again DeYona for the invite and Thank You BOYCE L.
