Two of Howard Chaykin's stories in Solo issue 4 are heist stories. Although one is a western and the other is a modern-day industrial saboteur tale, both are predicated upon similar twists: the two characters that you'd think would be at odds against one another have actually been in cahoots the whole time. There are minor differences, of course, but it's kinda odd when you peel back the layers and look at the machinery of the stories. Even so, these are probably two of the better stories in his issue. The first story in Howard Chaykin's issue of Solo is about a famous jazz musician who almost gets stuck in Paris when the Nazis took over. He frantically tries to escape the city. It's a strong premise, but the twist ending, in which his salvation comes from a Nazi who happens to be his biggest fan, is kind of an odd one when you slow down and really think about it. Is the real twist that not all Nazis are bad? Or is it supposed to be a lighthearted joke that even Nazis can love jazz music? Whatever the reason, it's an ending that strikes a dissonant tone with the serious beginning of the story. Teenage Sidekick is the story that won Paul Pope an Eisner Award. It's a bit surprising because the story itself is simple and doesn't seem to do anything much other than show off Robin and Batman in action. However, the style and execution are incredibly energetic. Amazingly, the legend James Jean colored this, too. We get some nice scenes of Robin in danger, as his overconfidence led him to get captured by the Joker's goons. He manages to do just enough to keep himself alive until Batman gets to the scene, but hanging over Robin's head is the fear of how Batman will reprimand him. At the end of the tale, Batman's rebuke is far less harsh than we'd expect, and it's actually a bit amusing to see. Like a lot of Pope's output, this story has youthful, rebellious energy and conveys how young people view the world of adults. Tim Sale was a talent lost too soon. One of his best achievements in comics is his issue of Solo. We take a look at this great issue in our latest episode! If you like The New Frontier, you should definitely find yourself a copy of Darwyn Cooke's issue of Solo. There's a smorgasbord of stories in this comic, and Cooke draws in a variety of styles. It all shows off his versatility, not only as an artist, but as a storyteller. Perhaps my favorite tale in this book is the story about a guy who has a habit of falling in love with vacuum cleaners. This episode includes the Dragon Void Run, the mysterious Loo Re Anno, rebel spies, information about Pantorans & George Lucas’ only live-action cameo and more! The 5 issues of Han Solo were written by Marjorie Liu, with the penciller Mark Brooks, the inker being Mark Brooks on issues 1,4 & 5, Dexter Vine doing issues 2 & 3, with Sonia Obeck as the colourist with help from Matt Milla on issue 4. Issue 1 was released June 2016, issue 5 was released November 2016 and the trade paperback collection was released January 2017. The hardcover released in May 2018 includes these comics as well as volume 2 of the main run of Star Wars comics; Showdown On The Smugglers Moon.

Elle est créée en solo (franchement, j'applaudis !), en auto-édition, suite à une campagne Ulule terminée et réussie il y a maintenant presque deux mois 🙂. Et cette réussite ne me surprend pas, parce que même si j'ai découvert ça presque en même temps que vous... J'ai très envie de lire la suite 😀 ! Many a mature petrol head who’s passion for classic cars started with toy cars may well remember ‘Dinky Toys’. They could be forgiven however for not remembering the ‘Dinky Driver’ stories featured in ‘Solo’, a comic for boys. Drawn by Jon Davis, each week, a young boy called Dinky and his friend Billie would star in exciting stories driving in what ever model car that Dinky’s owners, Tri-ang were paying City Magazines to promote.
