This week, we opened our new Sixth Form study area, as part of the first phase of New Hall’s Sixth Form Business & Languages Centre. A concept based on state-of-the-art university learning centres, the rooms were designed with the Sixth Form students’ independent study and collaborative work in mind, benefitting from the calm environment and view of our forest walk, and equipped with air conditioning 🤩 #sixthform #independentsixthform #independentschool

Before every photo shoot, I talk to my clients (and their parents) about the important details: what our plan is, when we will do outfit changes, what the timeline for locations is, etc. We also have the “no” talk. “No.” is a complete sentence. Sometimes, I have a vision in my head—like this beautiful goth ballet gargoyle I created with Avery—and I do try out every location myself. If this ledge can hold my weight, and if I can climb up and back down without any problem, then it can surely hold someone half my age and weight! But beautiful photographs are not created with terrified subjects. So all a client ever has to do is say no, and that’s that. I won’t take it personally. We all have different limits and different levels of confidence. We all have different skills and different stories that can cause something that’s no problem for me to be challenging for someone else. I’m not here to push my clients to their limit—that would be disrespectful of their boundaries. So, no means no. If something I’ve suggested makes a client uncomfortable, that is not a problem, we will make adjustments or scrap that concept altogether. I will have other opportunities to shoot my vision with other people for whom my wacky idea is not uncomfortable. But overstepping boundaries in the name of art breaks a trust I may never repair with my client. 🏫 SCHOOL’S OUT 🏫 Final day of school ever for my favourite teenager. I’m not sure where the last fourteen years have gone; it seems like yesterday I was worrying what I’d do with myself when he wasn’t with me in the day anymore. There have been many highs and some lows. The auditory issues, pulling him out of school and battles with allergies have all kept us awake at night. But this has been balanced by the sheer joy of watching him on stage and being proud of what he’s been able to achieve despite his poor processing: a result of untreated jaundice at birth. Most important of all, I am so pleased that he has grown into a kind young man. Today was the last day of formal lessons before our Year 13s head off on study leave, and they marked the occasion with a traditional week of dressing up, that has seen them work their way through a variety of themes, from ‘dress for the job you want’ - a quarter of the year dressed as medics! - to formal wear and Princesses and Super Heroes. The girls dug out their old school uniforms for the annual Year 13 vs Staff rounders match. There was tiebreak torment, that saw our enthusiastic educators taught a tough lesson! With the score at 6 all after normal time, the match moved to a tie break. A great strike by Melissa sent the ball flying over the hedge and off-site (the fourth of the day!) to clinch a victory for the girls 7.5 rounders to 7. Today we said a fond farewell to Year 13, class of 2024! 🎉💖🎓 Year 13's final day was filled with memorable moments, including the playful soaking of teachers and a heartfelt farewell assembly. They enjoyed a brunch together, while later staff gathered for a family lunch, marking the end of an era for the class of 2024. Dawn Morgan, Director of Sixth Form commented: "Friday 10 May marked the end of an era for the Year 13 class of 2024 and they marked their final day of formal schooling with characteristic energy. Branded as part of 'the lost generation' by the media because of the effect that the Covid-19 pandemic had on their education, Kingsley students have proved again and again that there is certainly nothing 'lost' about them. The theme of their final day was a homage to the Kingsley LEARN TO FLY message. The day was hosted by a competent team of flight attendants, captains and air traffic controllers and the audience was treated to considerable in-flight entertainment as we shared in their joyful memories and celebrations. This wonderful group of students may have landed on the runway but the memories of their journeys with us will last for a long time. They are a vibrant group of hard-working and focused students who never fail to bring the sunshine with them wherever they go. As they prepare for their external examinations, we know they will have prepared well and will conduct themselves with class and grace. Following a summer of fun, they will be jetting off to their future destinations, some to university and some on gap years and we wish them all the best of times. 🎉🪩💃🏼 UPPER SIXTH CLASS OF 2024 LEAVERS’ DINNER 💃🏼🪩🎉 Yesterday evening, we held our annual Leavers’ Dinner for the Upper Sixth as they prepare to go on study leave for their A Levels. This is always an incredibly special event, celebrating the year group – some of whom have been at FHS since the humble age of 4 – and recognising their extraordinary achievements and amazing endeavours over their time at the School. 🙌 The weather couldn’t have been more perfect as girls and staff gathered for the initial drinks reception, and there was a palpable sense of community in a playground filled with a rainbow array of gorgeous outfits in the evening sunshine. After the annual ceremonial year group photo, guests made their way into a beautifully decorated Senior Hall for a delicious street food buffet (at the girls’ special request!). They also enjoyed perusing the Class of 2024 Year Book and watching a slideshow of photos over the years. The evening was interspersed with a poignant toast by our Head, Mrs Haydon, and brilliant and often hilarious speeches by our Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, Mary and Anna, and Ms Stansfield, Mrs Wilkes and Mrs Ramage, looking back at just some of the precious memories of the girls’ time at FHS.
