Putting these shelves up was one of our first proper DOY jobs as we purchased the raw wood & brackets ourselves, then had to sand, paint & put up completely on our own. It was a challenge but we managed to get them on the wall & as straight as possible (never easy when your house is 100 years old & nothing is straight!). The final chapter of our road trip and our mini holiday before hitting London Town 🚗 Day 8: We left Ilfracombe and headed to Arlington Court (where we spent nearly two hours in a carriage museum 🐎), then headed to Dunster Castle 🏰 which was incredibly beautiful, then onward into Bath. We were upgraded and got a room with a four-poster bed 🥹💕 Day 9: Was supposed to be more driving/tourism but we decided to have a quiet day and visited the Bath Cathedral, followed by a 2.5 hour walking tour of Bath. This was some thirsty work and we ended up with some bevies and books @ravenofbath and then annoyed the guys @bathdistilleryandbar with questions about UK life🍹 Day 10: BIRTHDAY DAY WOOP WOOP 💐 we: visited the Roman Baths and tasted the water 🤢, went to the Jane Austen Museum, went to the board game cafe next door, met up with @hanmackadventures for dinner @ravenofbath followed by MORE gin @bathdistilleryandbar (they do a mean cocktail!) Wonderful how 11 year old Pedro Peinado, who today came on a City of London Guides tour of the Billingsgate Roman House and Baths, had been inspired by the Roman history of the City of London. The grandiose Windsor Castle 🏰 transports you into Britain’s storied royal history 👑 and architectural majesty. From the imposing medieval stone towers to the regal stately apartments, every corner exudes a richness that demands you linger and soak in the details. During this same day trip out of London, I visited other stops like Bath’s Roman ruins and the mysterious Stonehenge. At these locations, I chose to simply be present without lifting my camera. As a photographer, there’s an intriguing duality - the act of documenting moments through a camera can enhance your immersion in a moment, but it can also distance you from fully experiencing it. I think I can safely say that Somerset is officially my favourite place in the world! Bath has the power to make you walk around with your jaw wide open in awe! There's something lovely on every street and it's so civilised, just gorgeous! The history nerd in me loved the Roman Baths. It's a natural ancient hot spring. In Roman times, it was built into a health and wellness centre of the time. Swimming pools, hot rooms (lika saunas) to sweat and scrape impurities off your skin after being pummelled by a masseur. Cold plunge pools, weight lifting rooms... you name it. Fast forward to the regency period, people would go to "take the waters at Bath" to improve their health, the tap room (now a restaurant) still has the fountain for people to drink the water. I did try it, I had a chest infection last week so I "took the waters" and it tastes like warm water with a handful of penneys thrown in, not pleasant. The kids hated it and ryan went back for seconds-Men! 😆. I definitely recommend it, followed by a trip to Sally Lunn's Bunn's (Bath's oldest food establishment) for refreshment.... and maybe a walk on royal crescent. * * #bath #somerset #romanbaths #history #holiday #england

They collected various mementos, such as paintings and sculptures, to adorn their homes, many of which eventually found their way into institutions like ours. Travelers to Italy considered ascending Mount Vesuvius and exploring ancient ruins essential experiences. Excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii began in 1738, but haphazard digging by treasure seekers caused damage. Last week I went on one of my favourite day trips - Bath Spa - I did one of my favourite things there - took a tour up to the top of the Abbey. The views from the roof around this gorgeous city and valley are worth it alone, but the guides are wonderful and you also get to go into the clock “room” (actually the tiniest little crouching corridor behind the clock), learn about how the bells are run and go see the bells themselves. This part of the tour has you walking along the catwalk at top the arched ceiling of the nave (photo 4 is the top side of an arch, which you can see from below in the last photo). While you’re up there you could look down this tiny hole and see down to the ground floor, which is what the bell ringers do when there’s a wedding so that they can see when the bride and groom hit their mark and it’s time to start ringing. At this point the ceiling is only 4 inches thick so even for someone like me who like heights it’s a tiny bit creepy! This time we did not do my other favourite thing in Bath, which is go to the Roman baths and museum, but I definitely enjoyed the view of this landmark as well from the abbey lower roof (photo 6) - which you can clearly see in one of my pictures full of its famous green water. The baths here are actually one of my favourite landmarks in the whole world I think. There are a few better places to be able to see what it was like to hang out as a Roman. Bath and Roman baths. The archaeological evidence shows that the site of the main spring was treated as a shrine by the Celts, and dedicated to the goddess Sulis. The Romans probably occupied Bath shortly after their invasion of Britain in 43 AD.
