I made this top from remnant fabric designed by @bymegancrosby. I’ve always loved her designs and it’s been great to create something from secondhand organic cotton off-cuts. In the 16 years I’ve been sewing I have very rarely used stretch fabric in personal projects as I’ve always found it hard to work with, especially without an overlocker. Also, It’s hard to find and salvage fabrics like jersey or 4-way stretch sustainably, therefore I usually don’t. This very simple top took around an hour to make from drafting the pattern to completion. I love how forgiving jersey can be especially for someone like me who is a relative newbie to jersey. After years of nagging, I finally caved in and made my loving husband a waistcoat. Pretty neat, huh?! He's chuffed. A much belated end to #marchmeetthemaker, but we got there! Day 29 was “Vision” and as with so many of these, I’ve thought a lot about it. Vision can represent so many things - my literal eyesight, which is extremely poor without glasses, an inheritance of my maternal line, or my hopes for an apocalypse that brings a utopian rather than dystopian future (see @zakfoster.quilts The New Apocalypse project) or perhaps just a response to the question I was asked when I bought these electrifying fabric remnants in the charity shop today, “do you have a project in mind for these?”.
