REMEMBER • Did you know that Raleigh has a national cemetery? Like Arlington, this cemetery is the final resting place for members of the armed forces. (As well as spouses and children.) 🇺🇸 While they all may not have died in service, I found it a lovely place to pay my respects this Memorial Day Weekend. I discovered two incredible people. SWIPE >>> 🇺🇸 Sergeant First Class William Maud Bryant (Vietnam) enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served in the special forces. Sgt. Bryant was killed in action at Long Khanh Province on March 24, 1969. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for courage in combat and selfless regard for his comrades. 🇺🇸 Millie Dunn Veasey was born in 1918 and graduated from Washington High School in Raleigh. She enlisted in 1942 and joined the “six triple eight” battalion, the only all-female, all-black unit to serve overseas during World War II. Dunn arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, in early 1945 among the 800 or so “women in technicolor” who overcame prejudice serving in the Women’s Army Corps - first stationed in Birmingham, England, then Rouen, France. Staff Sergeant Dunn was discharged in 1945. She graduated from St. Augustine’s College in 1953, and became president of the local chapter of the NAACP (1965-1968). She was honored for her service and lifelong advocacy of education and civil rights. Veasey died March 9, 2018, at the age of 100. ART + NATURE • The @ncartmuseum park is always a good idea. 🏞️ There’s a really special art installation right now at our art museum park. Counterculture, by Rose B. Simpson, is a temporary installation presented in conjunction with the exhibition “To Take Shape and Meaning, Form and Design in Contemporary American Indian art,” on view in the galleries through July 28. 🏞️ “With eyes that go through their heads, the figures represent watchful presences perpetually observing and reminding us of what the original stewards of these lands already knew: we are all guests in the natural world.” 🏞️ You could spend all day in the museum park alone. There are new interactive exhibits like swings that create music while you’re on them. There are tables and chairs and a welcome center (with bathrooms - and LocoPops). SWIPE to see. 🍕🍓 I wanted to share this adorable moment from a few weeks ago. We tried out a new spot in Wilmington, @bridgewaterwinesdinespn, and it instantly became my 12-year-old son's favorite restaurant in town! Who would've thought a wine shop would be such a hit with kids? 😂 They have the cutest kid's menu called a Kidcuterie Board. It’s got everything a kid could dream of: pretzel bites, flatbread cheese pizza or meatballs with marinara, a fresh fruit medley, queso, a kids soda flight, AND ice cream in a souvenir baseball cap! 🍕🍨🥤 The best part?
