CùBòcan have released the newest whisky in their series and this lightly peated spirit has been matured in Pedro Ximinez and Jamaican Rum casks this time around. On the nose I get barbecue smoke alongside a fresh grassiness, plummy fruitiness and leather. The palate has almost like a vanilla croissant note with old oak and cinnamon whilst still feeling really fresh! From memory this seems a bit smokier than the previous ones have, but I’d need to do a proper side-by-side comparison to confirm properly ☺️ I really enjoyed this dram and think it could suit those who quite like a smoky whisky but doesn’t mind the sweetness! The run casks bring a twist on that classic smoke + sherry character which I find refreshing and intriguing. I’d have this with smoky ribs, barbecued sweetcorn or just a custard tart in the summer 🔥

Die Dezemberteilung stand unter dem Motto Space Dram und wir haben vier Flaschen vom unabhängigen Abfüller Scotch Universe geteilt. . Der erste Teil der Serie ist der Titania II. Die etwas kryptische Bezeichnung 150° U.2.1' 1958.2" lässt sich mithilfe der Rückseite der Flasche dechiffrieren. Die 150° geben die Monate an, die der Whisky reifte. Demzufolge lag er 12 Jahre und 5 Monate in Eichenfässern. Das U steht für unpeated. Es ist demzufolge ein ungetorfter und nicht-rauchiger Whisky. Die 2 ist eine von Scotch Universe vergebene Fassklassifikation. Sie müsste dem Etikett zufolge für ein PX Sherryfass stehen. Die 1 sagt uns, dass es ein erstmals mit Whisky befülltes Fass ist, also ein First Fill. 1958 stellt eine mögliche Referenz zur Brennerei dar. Nach kurzer Befragung von Tante Google würde die Referenz eine Verbindung zu Tormore sein. Unterstrichen wird diese Annahme durch die letzte 2, die die Region angibt. Es handelt sich um einen Speysider und MacDuff liegt in der Speyside. . Geruch: Ich habe auf Anhieb erst einmal Malz, gefolgt von dunklen Früchten und Schokolade. Die Karamellnote kommt durch und man hat eine wunderbare Süße in der Nase. . Geschmack: Die Süße setzt sich im Geschmack fort, so wie ich es bei einem PX-Fass mag. Der Alkohol ist deutlich zu spüren, aber nicht zu aufdringlich. Ich habe leichte Röstaromen, die einen Hauch von Rauch andeuten. Dazu gesellen sich rote Früchte, etwas Moder und eine Prise Kellermuff. Das mag vielleicht nicht lecker klingen, ist es aber. Ich steh darauf. 😜 . Abgang: Der Tormore macht sich schön lang am Gaumen breit, verbreitet eine gewisse Schärfe und auch Pfeffer. Zum Grande Finale schwenkt es aber um in eine herrliche Zuckerwattesüße. Yum! 😍 . Catching up on few of the bottles from last evening's fire. This cool bottle came to the fire care of @denji26 and some innovative transportation by @new.whiskyorder What a way to start the evening. There is that Islay/Kilchoman peat on the nose that greets you but on the palate the sherry really becomes the star. With just a couple drops of water as this is sitting at 60.2% ABV this becomes lovely and chewy, a real mouth full.

The tech talk, called “Coming to America: Sherry Cask Maturation in America”, was developed by @rafa_cask and @britwimsatt (from @kelvin_cooperage), who spoke about the advantages for American distillers to obtain Casknolia sherry casks. A tech talk in which the types of wines, possibilities of flavors, maturation times and shipping challenges among other relevant topics for industry professionals were discussed. This is an initiative financed with FEADER funds (European Agrarian Fund for Rural Development) . . .
