Before and after photos of preparation to the next section of hedge laying at Springhill Airbnbs at Springhill Farm. . These hawthorn trees are at the perfect stage for laying to create a natural boundary for stock and will be a great habitat for nesting birds in the spring. The arisings will be chipped and placed under the hedge as mulch. . Hedge laying is an ancient skill that involves cutting down a line of trees and approximately 80% of the tree is removed with 20% remaining in the ground. The trunks are laid down and the remaining tops are woven between the laid trunks. Stakes are then placed at regular intervals to hold it all together. . You may have noticed we have some new visitors on Brimham’s moorland. The hard-working herd of Belted Galloways have settled in well and have been busy eating moor grass and young trees, squashing the bracken and helping maintain a healthy habitat. There are 34 cows grazing across approximately 110 hectares on the north and south moor. Please be aware if you are walking with dogs and remember to keep them on a short lead. Brimham Rocks 🪨 We visited Brimham rocks last week as haven't been for a while and fancied a local trip out with the girls. We picked such a good day for it and enjoyed our picnic with stunning views. BR is part of the national trust and a day trip out if not a member, will set you back £10 parking for the full day or £6.50 for 4 hours. It has an outdoor cafè onsite which sells nice sandwiches/snacks at a reasonable price. There are also walking routes around the grounds but we have never done these as the girls just love to climb! Happy THURSDAY! Yes guys, it’s THURSDAY!! Contrary to what I put in my stories earlier today….it is NOT in fact Tuesday, but THURSDAY. 🤭 Oops! We’ve just trimmed up for Christmas in both our Yorkshire Airbnb’s. For availability and bookings check out the web links above to our Airbnb’s.
