Latchezar Boyadjiev's sculptural journey is a fascinating blend of training, technique evolution, and artistic growth. Let's delve into the summary and elaboration of the techniques he employed to create his remarkable sculptures. Initially honing his craft in the world of optical glass after defecting to the U.S. in 1986, Boyadjiev mastered intricate cold work techniques such as cutting, grinding, polishing, and laminating. However, faced with the limitations of scale, he boldly shifted his approach towards cast glass, marking a significant departure in technique. This transition was paralleled by an evolution in his drawing technique, from pencil to charcoal, reflecting a deeper artistic transformation. The creation process for his cast glass sculptures was meticulous and detailed, beginning with clay modeling to achieve smooth surfaces and intricate details. Positive and negative molds were then painstakingly crafted, leading to the production of plaster positives. Returning to the Czech Republic, Boyadjiev collaborated with skilled glass casting studios, selecting colors and working with familiar faces from his past.
