BUT - for some reason - there was one section I thought about multiple times during my run before I got there and I kept having an overwhelming thought that “it’s way safer to run this section the usual way”. I’m not sure why, but something told me to run that my usual way in an overwhelming way. Lo and behold, I got to that corner and there was a fender bender mere moments after I turned the corner…and had I run it “backwards” I would’ve been on that corner on that side of the street when it happened. 5k treadmill run this morning. This run made me question how the hell people can run speeds of 8.5 or higher for long periods of time on a treadmill. I felt like I was going so much faster than what this pace feels like outside. I just kept telling myself keeping going, don't fall. When I did the last .35 miles. Happy 3 year anniversary of #neonfriday! ✨🌈 Neon Friday means a lot to me. If you don’t know the story, it started as a fun way to get people involved, to build a community at a time when we all felt so isolated, and frankly, selfishly, for me to have somewhere to direct my energy during the pandemic. And then over time it transformed into this beautiful weekly reminder of love and light and friendship and encouragement. A reminder not to take life too seriously. To find the people you’re meant to have in your community. It got me out the door on days where I otherwise wouldn’t have, where it was the best thing happening, where it was the one thing to look forward to. It’s become almost like an “identity” for me. I love that it brings joy and light to my online community, but I also love seeing how it has spread just a little bit of that light in the far corners of different towns and communities all over the place. The stories each of you tell me about connections and comments you’ve had because of it. This “silly little thing” is way bigger than us. And even if I’m the last man standing someday, I intend to keep doing this for the one smile it may bring. Whether that might be mine or someone else’s. Happy #neonfriday! 🌈 (slightly belated) Whew. The last 30 hours have been a whirlwind and I for sure did not have this one on my 2024 bingo card! I’ve spent probably about 15 hours on the phone during that time (9 hours and 46 minutes today!). I sat in my running clothes for almost 5 hours before I finally had a chance to run two quick miles…and I made a phone call while I did it (talking 90% of the time). What a time! Happy Friday, y'all! I'm feeling so good this morning after my workout. There are some days I don't want to get up and do it, surprisingly today wasn't one of those days. If I had more time, I would have ran 10 miles, but cut it at 8 miles. I am not sure what my weekend mileage will look like since tomorrow I will be outta town and have my friends 40th bday celebration starting at 10am (can't wait to be with my girls!!!!!). It's supposed to be in the single digits in the early am, so I plan to run before the festivities, but not sure how far with time limit and temps. With that being said, I wanted to make sure I got a decent run this morning. Sunday, I am signed up for a 5k, but honestly not sure I'll go for a few reasons... 1. Not sure what I'll feel like Sunday (in case I do celebrate a little too much with friends) 2. The race is literally the worst time....1pm. Such a late race, and I'll want to get back home to my kids earlier than later. 3. Do my lungs really want to run at race pace in that cold weather. Every time I run at race pace in really cold weather it kills my lungs for the next few days. But, we will see I might go and I might not. Anyway, just here to say, I feel great today. Exercise is about how it makes you feel (not just look, but let's be honest we work out for that reason too). So I'm here to say, get up and get moving..whatever the workout may be...
