Installing high-visibility crosswalks in all Napa County school zones is one of NCBC's universal recommendations, as found in our 31 Safe Routes to Schools school site reports. We advocated for the installation of this safety treatment with the City of Napa as it completes repaving projects or refreshes crosswalk paint, and we advocated for high-vis crosswalks at this intersection of Franklin and Elm by Shearer Elementary School specifically, alongside representatives from the school. A huge thank you to the City of Napa Public Works for heeding our call! After agreeing earlier this year to begin routinely installing this safety treatment around schools, they installed these crosswalks at Franklin and Elm as promised. A parent from the school, who walks to school in the morning with her daughter, said, "This is such fantastic news!! I can’t wait to dance across with [my daughter]." We had a great time working with middle school youth in NCOE’s Expanded Learning program in Calistoga. Over three sessions, these adept youth learned to fix a flat, the rules of the road for cyclists, bike handling fundamentals, and advanced maneuvers.
