This style of arrowhead with the curved/crescent tip was used for hunting smaller game, specifically birds. It needed to be wider while still pointy and sharp to find its way under the feathers. Barbed broadhead - This style of arrowhead was commonly used throughout the middle ages primarily for large game hunting such as deer, or boar. The two sharp barbs either side of the arrowhead would prevent it from falling back out once it hit its target. Poor Nic here does get hit quite hard π but looks at the paintwork! The top coat I use absorbs impacts meaning scuffs rather than chips meaning only touch ups to your design! 'A Goldsmith in his Shop' by Petrus Christus is believed to show the virtuous way of life (in the interior) and its antithesis (on the exterior, reflected in a cracked mirror), so it shouldn't be perceived strictly as a documentation of everyday life. However, I wouldn't reject the possibility that the interaction between a goldsmith and his customers has something to do with the real social cues in the 15th century. A man putting his arm around his love interest - nothing we haven't seen before and even a gesture still in use. A goldsmith exchanging glances with his customers - today probably something so obvious that we do it without the awareness while selling or buying something; but is it that common in the Old Masters' paintings ? And finally, a remarkable proximity between the characters. It looks as if a wealthy couple invaded the craftsman's space. If so, this could indicate that the relationship between 3 people goes beyond what's formal. I see... Shouldn't every goldsmith aspire to belong to the same confraternity (for the vips) as his customers from the upper nobility ?
