💙 Black Madonna, Black Remembrance 💙 . . The Black Madonna has become a topic of great interests in folk Catholic circles, Goddess circles, and Magical circles. In many ways I feel that these circles tend to focus the Black Madonna in the white experience, and a tendency to categorize her particularly as an earth goddess, bypassing that she is the symbol of remembrance of the African Mothers, the Black mothers who have birthed humanity. There can be no real conversation about the black Madonna that doesn’t put POC and especially the African mothers the birthers of humanity at its center. When we remove this aspect of her we continue the colonization mindset that seeks to disconnect humanity from its roots, its magic and its origins, further driving us apart. One thing that I feel that we can garner as folk practitioners and devotees of this great saint is one that is appropriate for the age we’re living in, as the legend states that Saint Lucy’s eyes were torn out, and miraculously restored. We live in an age where the truth is constantly be obscured from us, and there are new and craftier ways to obscure the truth. With the dawn of AI, and the ever growing misinformation of social media and the internet and the pitfalls of our everyday lives, we need an almost a constant renewal of our eyes, of the information we take in, and being able to see clearly the truth. . . Saint Lucy offers us the opportunity for the renewal of our site both in the physical sense and the spiritual sense, not only does Saint Lucy open our eyes and pierce the imaginary spiritual veil of separation, but she also illuminates our eyes with light in a world that has become fogged by those who want to support there own agenda and those who would tell lies to boost there own platforms and egos (the constant pitfall of platforms like Facebook and instagram, tik tok etc.) . . In The Gospels Jesus tells us if your eyes cause us to sin to pluck them out, there’s a resonance to this in Saint Lucy’s mythos, that the renewal of true sight to see clearly may take a radical reorientation to the truth, one that may involve the violent scrutiny of where and how we get our information, and what we ourselves portray to the world. . . 👑 Christ the King 👑 . . so that God may be all in all.- 1 Corinthians 15:28 . . This past Sunday marks the Feast of Christ the King the end of the liturgical year, the liturgical “apocalypse” so to speak, the feast of Christ the king, from many a pulpit we will have had many homilies that talk about Dominion, patriarch, and traditional images of the God King who extends his dominion and subjects all to his power, these understandings and interpretations coming from years of fashioning Christ into an earthly king and also using Jesus as a pawn to legitimize the rule of monarchs and aristocrats. . . These empirical understandings of the the feast of Christ the king I feel miss the point, and actually miss the point of the feast, and actually the whole of the mystery tradition of the Christ story. . . In the last line of the Verse from Corinthians the writer states that God maybe all in all, this is the essence of the Kingship of Christ, it is the marrying and the coming together of both the heavenly and the earthly realms, but it’s not just in Jesus the person, it is the coming together of the full potential of creation, it is the coming together of humanity into its true state where divinity and humanity are not separate agencies but are one and the same. . . We like to think that we would be the one to come back to give thanks after such a great miracle, but we have to think of all the many times we take the miracles and blessings for daily life for granted, how many times on a daily basis do we turn back to give thanks over our days. . . Gratitude and Thanksgiving are a lifestyle, they are the basis of the magic and the miracles of our lives, the act of gratitude for the blessings of our day to day mundane lives, is the soil from which greater things can grow and manifest in our lives. . . May today be a new beginning, may today be the start of new miracles and new blessings in our lives, and may these miracles begin with heartfelt gratitude. What we have to remember about this work is that this is an ongoing work, after the altars of All Souls’ Day and Dia De Los Muertos altars have been put away, and we move on with our lives we have to remember that the work of elevating souls, the healing work of our ancestors, our family trees, the work of healing the souls that wander, that have no one to pray for them. . . Blood is vitality, it is the life force, devotion to the precious blood has the potential to bring in a powerful aspect to your magical practice, as it is calling on the life force and vitality of the beloved, it is the ultimate force of love in the universe (which the sacred heart represents the container of this love outpoured) . .
