July is the devotional month of the precious blood of Jesus in the Catholic devotional calendar. I was raised Baptist, and this was one of the carry overs after my conversion that was very familiar to me, “pleading the blood of Jesus” as a type of purification, and act of liberation that is common in a lot of old school African American devotional life (some Catholics would eventually adopt this also).

I think the precious blood is a devotion that is overlooked in most Catholic circles, and is one that is overlooked in magical practice.
Blood is vitality, it is the life force, devotion to the precious blood has the potential to bring in a powerful aspect to your magical practice, as it is calling on the life force and vitality of the beloved, it is the ultimate force of love in the universe (which the sacred heart represents the container of this love outpoured)

The precious blood devotion is also useful for spirit work, and the elevation of spirits, the precious blood is available to everyone at Mass (whether your Catholic or not) at the elevation of the Chalice which is considered the most powerful time of the Eucharistic celebration, one practice that I have adopted is for the precious blood of Jesus to fall on the anima sola who wander the world, may it be a comfort to them and a source of their elevation.

The precious blood can also be invoked in situations of spiritual infestation, for healing, and for the liberation of curses and hexes, and even in works of justice against those who have done us harm (I consider the Just Judge a extension of this devotion)
