On one of our dates we were hiking and sat down at a cliff and he played Hand of God for me, gushing over the musical composition (and for good reason). Bellion is a wizard with music. This singer, songwriter, musician, and producer is extremely gifted and like the rest of his fans, as much as I know he is thriving helping other artists like Tori Kelly’s recent self-titled album and The Jonas Brothers with their music, I do wish he’d put out more of his own, personal work. Talk about an incredible voice - her vocals are just insane and so beautiful. I discovered Kopecky when they opened a concert at my university back in 2013, when this album released. Frankly, I don’t even remember who they opened for! But I remember them. This album is fun with a sound I can’t quite compare to anyone else off the top of my head. I was immensely and pleasantly surprised when browsing @colliderecords site last summer that they had both of Kopecky’s albums on LP (you betcha I jumped at both asap! and fyi, they’re still in stock) Also, this pressing color is so stunning. Although 1994 was one of the best years for some of the most insane and highly desired black metal albums released, this epic piece came out a year later and still to this day is one of my favorite black metal albums ever. I have been wanting an original first press for so many years that I thought, maybe I will never find this one. I have a boot and the 96 picture disc and almost settled a few times for the 98 blue vinyl press. But I held out and patients finally worked and I have this real nice copy with an absolute mint record. I won’t get into the story behind this incredible band for it can be a little sensitive to some. If you know, you know. So confession: I’m not the biggest Selena fan. Maybe it’s because of her style of music or that I tend to stray away from big names (like my mediocre fandom of TS) but this album is a vibe. Honestly, I’ll listen to the whole thing, deluxe version too (which I received a download for with this), straight through if I’m working out or want something more upbeat. It’s not that Selena isn’t talented, she certainly is, but I guess my preference is more indie artists with stripped down sounds and less synth-pop, though she mixes in a lil R&B and you can hear her Latina roots come through on some songs too. It’s fun, catchy, and you’ll certainly get love/heartbreak songs, but if you’re looking for a good beat, there’s plenty here. . . . This is one of those albums that brings me back to my college days. First, the vibe very much fits the southern mountain landscape surrounding my university. Second, it released in 2012 during my sophomore year. Several years after graduation a friend I had met there came to visit me so we could attend a concert together (we have such close tastes in music) and the last two slides are from that concert.
