📍Lancelin Best known for its sand, surf and sunsets this pretty little seaside town was a lovely spot to visit and we used it as a base to explore the area. One of the places we did visit was Lake Thetis which is home to Stromatolite’s, which have been growing for about 3,500 years. Western Australia is internationally significant for a variety of stromatolite sites. In the Pilbara 3,400 million year old stromatolites are the oldest known fossils. Whilst in Lancelin we stayed at Experience Lancelin Holiday Park on one of the back beach double concrete sites. Plenty of room, clean amenities, short walk to the beach, indoor heated pool and spa and family friendly. This beautiful new combination 👌 2023 Toyota LC300 & 2024 23ft New Age Road Owl Triple Bunk. No GVM/GCM upgrades to the 300, and it faired well (once we sorted a few things out). It was under its GCM, but over its rear axle, GVM and hitch capacity (wait for it)… With the water full and packed to go away, the caravan was under its Group Axle Weight, ATM & GTM, however, this caravan had a 441kg tow ball!!! Our clients had packed relatively lightly, the issue with this caravan is it had close to a 10% tow ball when it was manufactured… the water tanks being full and forward of the axles, adding heavy bike racks and utilising the storage as it should, means that every item you pack forward of the axles continues to put more weight on the tow ball sending it over the limits. The extra weight on the tow ball negatively impacted the GVM, hitch limit and rear axle of the vehicle. Our clients are embarking on their maiden voyage, we had our client remove the Jerry cans from the toolbox, dump the water out of the front water tank, our client removed a 9kg gas bottle and took some items from the vehicles boot placing them in the caravan behind the axles. Doing all of this will ensure the caravans tow ball drops below the compliance limit of 350kg, the tow hitch limit, GVM and rear axle on the vehicle will also be corrected. We have supplied our client with the tools to monitor their weights moving forward and the ability to keep a close eye on the tow ball weight. Our client is exploring a GVM/GCM upgrade that will help resolve future weight issues. 📍 Hyden Hyden is most famous for Wave Rock. However, there are a few other points of interest including - 🔺Hippos Yawn - This cool rock formation was definately worth a visit. You can do the loop walk from Wave Rock or drive. 🔺Mulka’s Cave - This is a small cave with some aboriginal art inside. Definately well worth the visit with some lovely walks to explore the area further. We stayed here - 🔺The Camp - Wave Rock Short Stay - There are 15 extra large unpowered campsites with access to very clean flushable toilets, water and rubbish removal. Located approx 2km from Wave Rock and $25 per 2 person site, this was a good overnight base for us. Pender Bay Escape campground is a beautiful, secluded bush camp overlooking Pender Bay on the Dampier Peninsula about 190km north of Broome and was a great spot to spend a few days just relaxing. Our camp site was on top of the red cliffs overlooking the beautiful beach, we had some amazing sunrises from camp which was a change from all the sunsets over the water that we’ve been seeing since in WA. We walked down the beach to look at heart rock and have a fish, unfortunately no luck with catching a feed. We also went exploring along the beach in the opposite direction to find the amazing rock pool hidden amongst the tall pillars of rock, unfortunately you can’t use a drone so it was hard to get a good photo of the pool. 📍Wave Rock Wave Rock is a must-see! This iconic formation looks just like a giant ocean wave about to break. Truly a natural wonder you have to experience. 🌊 There was a $12 car parking fee to view this site, which was a bit disappointing considering that there are so many other beautiful natural attractions that we have seen and not had to pay for. We would be happy to pay if there appeared to be a specific reason for upkeep etc, however, this did not seem to be the case here. Although Coolgardie is now known to most Western Australians as a tourist town and a mining ghost town, it was once the third largest town in Western Australia (after Perth and Fremantle). At this time, mining of alluvial gold was a major industry and supplied the flagging economy with new hope. 📍Broad Arrow Tavern 20 mins from Kalgoorlie is the ‘gold ghost town’ of Broad Arrow and the only building now standing is the Broad Arrow Tavern which was built in 1896 and is considered an authetic outback pub known for its cold beer and it’s excellent Broady burgers. The Bali swimtrek swimming adventure is complete. We swam roughly 12km in 4 days and 8 hrs of yoga with a fabulous group of women swimming the ocean waves of Amed beach in Bali.
